We were driven to the restaurant by a local vehicle recovery centre (don't ask, it's a long story!). The restaurant serves typical Alsacienne local cuisine which was extremely tasty and excellent value. I chose the plat du jour which was the typical salad starter followed...More

We were staying in a gîte in the area and figured this looked like an 'authentic' enough restaurant to try, confirmed by all the rave reviews we'd seen. The house is charming, the deco truly unique, the welcome unbelievably warm (what a change from the Paris region!), the service attentive, and the menu with plenty of options. The plat du jour was a tarte flambée for entrée, potatoes and boudin for the plat (with salad), and a buche de noël for dessert. All that for less than 9 euros!!! You will definitely get your money's worth. In the end the food wasn't the greatest: I am not enough of an Alsatian expert to know if it's the restaurant's food I don't like or just the region's. Judging by the tarte flambée--which seemed unusually dry with undercooked onions--it might be moreso the restaurant. Still, with the ambiance, service, and bang for your buck, I can't think of a better stop if you're passing through the area. Check out the village streets of Bouxwiller while you're at it.Families: we were visiting with three young kids and they were extremely helpful, welcoming, and accommodating. A reservation's preferred!

Don’t let the humble appearance of this village restaurant fool you – it is simply top-notch. The service is highly attentive, and the waitresses are happy to explain the menu featuring plenty of local specialties, and even offer suggestions for the undecided. The food was delicious. We had the tarte flambée with Munster cheese, the sorcerer’s plate, which was an omelette with gizzards (it’s really a lot more delicious than it sounds) and the fleischscnacka, which is rolled-up pasta with pot-au-feu meat stuffing, sort of an Alsatian version of a ravioli if you will. These were served with salad and sautéed potatoes, the latter of which done to perfection. The portions were truly generous, so go with your appetites prepared; they doggy-bagged our leftovers, which were enough to make another meal. The most remarkable point about this restaurant however, is the decoration. The place has a theme of sorcery and witchcraft, in tribute to the local legend of witches who apparently gathered under the cross on the hill in the village (or so we were told by the waitress). We found it great value-for-money, having paid about 60 euros for four wines, an entrée, two mains and a dessert. Highly recommend it!

We had dinner here on Halloween night at the recommendation of the owner of our Gite in Obermodern. As with most of her suggestions we did very well to follow it! We were looking for typical Alsatian cooking and we were not disappointed with any aspect of the meal. The decor was perfect for the night as the pace is overrun with witches giving the place a spooky feel. The welcome however, was very warm and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble and they were able to help choose our obligatory gluten free meal. The food was typical, robust Alsatian cooking with big flavours that was matched by the portion sizes! We never made it to desserts, but the Cafe Gourmands were excellent.Overall we would give a big thumbs up in every respect and would certainly return, were it not so far from home!

Local traditional Alsace specialities. You are made very welcome and the service is superb. The decor is typical Alsace folklore.

Typical food. reasonal price. wonderful atmosphere all based on witches (sorcieres): paintings, stencils and dolls. We took "les Plaisirs d'Alsace" (presskopf maison, jarret de pork and tarte maison). Great choice. I recommend it.
