As this was our first evening in Calvi, we decided to go along to the sea front to find a restaurant, and came across a long line of them, of which Le Bato Ivre was one.We took a nice table outside at the front overlooking the harbour and out of the cool breeze. We ordered our meal (from the "Menu Corse" - a tourist set menu of local dishes at a fixed price) in French naturally, being reasonably competent in the language, but our waiter decided we would all speak English. I ordered the smoked charcuterie, followed by the veal with olives and pasta, and a caramel flan for dessert. The food arrived before the wine, and as our confident waiter delivered the wine glasses with a flourish, he managed to drop my glass onto the table, shattering fragments over my starter! These were soon replaced with apologies, and the meats were of good quality and the quantity generous. The veal was also good, but I found only a couple of olives and not many of the vegetables described. The caramel flan, however, was disappointing - small, bland and uninteresting. The local wine was very good, and we were given a digestif on the house after the meal. The atmosphere was fine with local people.
