Le Passon is an easy, informal cafe / restaurant with a good choice of dishes, decent prices and a friendly service. You can sit outside under parasols or inside, depending upon the weather. Either option looks fine.We took a 2hr walk through the wooded mountainside from Les Frasserands (just up from Argentiere) to Le Tour. Having seen the reviews on TripAdvisor this was planned as our lunchtime stop. Le Tour is a small hamlet and sits at the base of the gondola cable car system.Aesthetically, it doesn't reach out and draw you in but keep the faith and you will be rewarded with an informal menu with an extensive choice of salads, omelettes, home made burger, steaks, potato dishes etc. etc. The food is well presented, portions are large and it tastes lovely! We sat outside and, on our sunny day in early July, it wasn't busy. The waitress (owner too?) was friendly, spoke fluent English (we apologised for our non-existent French) and service was prompt but we never felt rushed to leave. We were too full for dessert although we will return as the ice cream menu looks tempting and they have a range of cakes too. If you are arriving by car then there is plenty of parking free of charge next to the restaurant. Le Passon would be good for a stop before or after using the gondola and chairlift system in the hamlet.I would recommend this restaurant. It's not a high-end place but it does have a good menu, the food is lovely, prices reasonable and the service friendly. Le Tour itself is tiny but has the most amazing views of the Mont Blanc mountain range as it sits at the head of the valley and you get to see the whole mountain chain running down the southern side of the valley. Even in July many of the mountains are still covered in snow and the contrast with the blue sky and deep green forested valley is stunning.A welcome quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of Chamonix!Arianne
