We planned our Silver wedding holiday celebration back to where we had our honeymoon near Calvignac. 25 years ago we dined many evenings at La Terrasse Romantique and it was then the most beautiful romantic little restaurant you could imagine, perched on a cliff top overlooking the river Lott. Owned and run by a stunning artist who exhibited his beautiful work in the restaurant. We were worried it may have been sold and were so happy to find 25 years later, that not only was it still there, it was still run by our artist Daniel, who is now a writer but also the chef. It was just as beautiful as we remembered! We arrived at the start of a storm (which only added to the atmosphere of our night!) so sitting outside on the terrace became sitting inside the intimate dining room, still with a view of the Lott. Our meal was fantastic and perfectly prepared. And our hosts Gilles and Daniel made us so welcome and we had one of the most memorable evenings of our 25 year happy marriage.

Returned here after three years, this time to have dinner (which must be booked). The traditional version of Kir - Fenelon - made a great aperitif. The menu is simple and unfussy, with french classic dishes. We very much enjoyed the Cassoulet and the Coq au Vin, and our children were delighted with sweet crepes for dessert.. The welcome and the service from Giles was super too. It is in a special location - an unspoiled hilltop hamlet with the most stunning views of the Lot valley.

Our day touring the villages around this area found us here at lunchtime. Lovely hilltop village with stunning views from the terrace .We ate the speciality dish being duck salad - good "rustic fare". Not pretentious just delightfully quirky like the decor. We'll eat here again.

We stumbled in here while cycling in the area and were immediately entranced. The location is quite extraordinary - perched precariously on the edge of a high escarpment over the river Lot. Calvignac has none of the chaos of nearby St.Cirq Lapopie but I think it has a delightful, if crumbling, charm. We were served by the owner who was easily distracted by a group of American walkers, so our food took rather a long time to arrive. We could not have cared! He served fresh food - whatever was in the market that day he told us, and we enjoyed every bite.

My husband and I ate in this charming, yet casual hilltop restaurant overlooking the picturesque Lot River, French countryside and the nearby historic Cenevieres Chateau in July 2011. It is the only restaurant in the small village of Calvignac and is easily accessible on foot or by car (there is a free parking lot below the town). While you can order a la carte from the menu, My husband and I both had the Eco Menu for 12 Euros each which included a decent mixed salad with fresh tomatoes, lettuce, grated cheese, onions and olives, a crepe with grated cheese, tomatoes, parlsey and epaule (pork), fresh bread, a glass of wine and a scoop of ice cream for dessert. The crepes were especially delicious. If you are traveling in the area (we were staying in St. Cirq Lapopie which is only about a 15 minute drive) and want to have an enjoyable, good and affordable meal with a view, this is the place for you.
