We were fortunate to be staying with friends in the area who could recommend this little restaurant as it is not very noticeable from the road. It is on the outskirts of the small pretty town of Cunlhat (pron: kye-err), with just a sign by the road. From there a track leads through fields to the car park. The building is quite rustic, with a terrace overlooking the fields and trees; a lovely spot to sit outside on the terrace on a summer evening. The staff are welcoming, but it is helpful to be able to get by in French. We both had duck, though done in different ways, and the food was good. The speciality of the house, recommended by our friends, is called La Truffade. It is a pan of potatoes with garlic and lardons, but the portion size was very generous, so we declined this time. The locally baked bread was superb, very fresh and tasty.

The restaurant is outside the town - give yourself a few minutes extra to find it. You'll drive down a 300m track from the road and find a parking space, then walk through to the restuarant with it's terrace overlooking the lake. The location also has a number of "gypsy" caravans you can rent in the summer. First impressions are you've walked into a hippy 'encampment' but once inside you find a very comfortable well furnished room with a pizza oven blazing on one corner, and friendly staff. Menu is short and traditional, a good place to go if you like frogs legs, duck confit, etc. but also an extensive range of pizzas. One word of warning - they don't take plastic, please make sure you have enough cash!

A welcoming friendly restaurant serving local cuisine and excellent pizzas cooked in a wood oven. There are also roulottes and other interesting accommodation in the grounds for those who fancy a holiday with a difference by the Plan d'Eau. Busy at weekends . Locals eat here - need we say more !

we had a choir meal in les pissoux at the end of the choir tour of my English chorus Ex-Andreas in the opposite. I'm a native who just lived outside of cunlhat, and although I had traveled many times past, I hadn't eaten there...before eating was nice, I had escaped that was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented, and a super boiled crème brûlée that is one of my test dishes. I cook myself, and I think I do a good work of the classic kitchen, and I must say I was impressed by what was presented, the quality of the ingredients, the tasteful quality of all foods, and above all the welcome. we were asked to sing to be a choir (maybe a little late in the evening to make a good return, but we will visit again for a future! I'm here again!
