Valjean is a good place to meet with friends on a Casual way and enjoy some of the good "lyonnaise" specialities. We had our dinner in the first room, close to the bar which is more like a lounge and therefore more happening, There is another room, more quiet being the bar. The food is good, and the carte propose different type of food. the service is very friendly and effective. the wine is great with a wide selection at a relatively raisonnable price.
We visited Valjean on a Thursday night. The dining room was emptier than we expected, though the bar was full and boisterous. Even with all the bar guests, the staff were attentive, friendly, and took great care of us. We had the civet de chevreuil (venison stew) with polenta and the filet de boeuf with gratin dauphinois. Both were excellent - rich, flavourful, and worth the price. We followed it up with a tarte de caramel au beurre salé and a tarte de citron, which we heartily recommend as well. Our waiter was kind enough to follow up with complimentary digestifs. A great finish to a lovely night out.
I stumbled across this restaurant a few months ago but didn't eat there. Recently I tried to find it again and then just by luck today I came across it in my wanderings in the city centre of Grenoble. And what a surprise a favorite waiter from Les Archers had started working there ! Even better ! The ambiance is great elegant but laid back .. not bling bling ! The menu contains typical french dishes. I ordered the Filet de Volaiile (chicken breast). The servings are copious. I couldn't eat dessert ! The prices are average. For example the chicken breast was 14 Euros. Served with three vegetables. The chicken serving was plentiful. there is a big bar upon entering giving the place a warm welcome, behind the bar is a good sized dining room. The bar is open for just drinks starting at 18h00 - the restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday night inclusive. This used to be Le Ponce and after that an Italian restaurant. Le Valjean has been open since November. Definitely worth a try !
Restaurant calme même si au milieu de la rue. Apéritif charcuterie et fromage de qualité!!! Personnel amical!!! Pluma ibérique et sa piperade en chorizo un REGAL !!!! Copyy et excellent!!!! Une belle découverte de ce restaurant et sans aucun doute une prochaine visite pour déguster d'autres plats !!!!
