Super setting between Alp d'Huez & Oz.Great family cooked cuisine- lots of lovely local dishes and some fantastic puddings.Warm welcome and all round great place either on terrace in the sun or snuggle up inside near the wood burning stove.A must visit venue if you are in Alp d'Huez, Oz or Vaujany.
Located on the Olmet run leading down from the top (and middle station) of the Poutran lift (i.e. on the way down to Oz Station).Small restaurant and all the better for it. It has a personal, cosy feel to it. A bit like eating in someone`s farm kitchen. Great place to be holed up if the weather closes in. When the sun`s out - there`s a warm, sheltered terrace.The food is simple but cooked beautifully. Good ingredients and well flavoured. I can`t think of another mountain restaurant where the food compares (and I`ve tried them all - numerous times).The owners (Serge and Marie) are kind - and the staff are invariably charming (not always the case in ADH restaurants) and efficient.The homemade Genepi is the best.The only downside to this restaurant is the ski run on which it is located. Lack of snow at New Year meant that it was inaccessible (and indeed, could not open). Fortunately, no such problems this half term.A standout restaurant - thoroughly recommended.
Ce n'était pas la première visite au Chalet d'Oz cette saison, mais comme la neige fond lentement, cela pourrait être la dernière pour le moment, et une autre occasion de le vérifier. Lors d'un déjeuner très chargé par un dimanche ensoleillé, le service était impeccable, rapide et sympathique, l'ambiance n'était pas trépidante et désorganisée, mais très calme et agréable, et la nourriture était encore une fois étonnamment bonne et jamais autre chose que chaude, même si nous mangeons sur le terrasse (même si ce n'était pas une journée très froide). Nous avons encore une fois l'un des meilleurs tartifletts que l'on puisse trouver dans les Alpes, et un délicieux burger qui était un véritable plat de restaurant, accompagné d'excellentes frites et de délicieux chocolats chauds. Pas de désert cette fois-ci, mais nous pourrions être de retour le week-end prochain lorsque la nouvelle neige arrivera. C'est formidable de voir une équipe de cuisiniers et de serveurs si motivés et une atmosphère conviviale et détendue sur les pistes avec de la nourriture qui, à chaque fois, reste de la plus haute qualité.
We had two meals this season at Le Chalet d'Oz and it was an extraordinary experience every time. While most restaurants on the slopes, especially when they fight food on the terrace, to supply dishes and leave them warm, Le Chalet d'Oz supplies hot dishes that somehow stay hot for long enough you need to eat them. We have tried to tartiflette, soup of the day (pumpkin), stunning burgers, tasty pommes, as well as delicious profiteroles de madeleine and chocolate muffins. The only thing we didn't like was to spray Chantilly cream on the deserts, but that was a little problem that didn't make the whole experience worse.
We have had the most wonderful time with our very friendly hosts Andy and Gill. The accommodation is superb, they offer apartments which can be self catered or half board and are so well equipped they would more than satisfy every need. Ideal for skiing as it's only 8 km from the nearest lifts at Oz which links up to Alpe d'Huez ski area and I believe if you don't want to drive you can catch the bus outside the Chalet or Andy can take you in the mini bus. Cyclists also love the beautiful surroundings and the endless mountain roads. One of the nicest surprises for us was the delicious meal Gill cooked! Wow!!! Superb 3 course, home cooked evening meal which was probably better than any meal we had eaten in the previous 10 days in various restaurants. Don't hesitate to book here, it was truly wonderful!!
