We've visited here on a few occasions now and never been disappointed. Scenic dining with a superb atmosphere at lunchtime. Take your time and soak it all up.

We visit this bistro for more than a decade now, and leave content every time! The place had improved its decoration enourmously, and also the food has only improved over the years, while prices have stayed correct. The service is very fast and very friendly. They serve local specialties like escargots and Charollais beef. During summer its best to make reservations, because locals and tourists flock to this place in great numbers. The terrace has a great view of the castle of La Clayette. You will not be dissapointed.

There were six of us, three cousins and spouses, running a little late on our lunch reservation made by the local pair who reside nearby. We were warmly welcomed and given a nice table with a view of the castle. We all ordered the plat du jour, which included an excellent country salad. We had the recommended house soufflé (order it when you order your entree) which was also excellent. We were the last to leave this lively and popular local bistro, but were never rushed or made to feel we should leave. It was country cooking in the best sense--plentiful, fresh, delicious. I would highly recommend for an authentic, no frills, fun and delicious lunch. May be best to reserve on a weekend. Go to Mssr. Dufoux afterwards for chocolates!

We had plans to eat at a recommended restaurant in a local village but could find it in a deserted village! So driving back we stopped off and walked past La Belle Époque; it was busy with locals which is never a bad sign, so we entered. The owner and his team were exceptionally helpful and sat us at a large table inside - what a bonus - the place is well decorated with motor memorabilia! We ordered of the a la crate menu but when we ordered bourguignon we were advised to order the plat du jour which included the dish. So we had salad / meats plus the beef plus desserts for less than the a la crate price. They could so easily have taken advantage but didn't so all credit to the serving staff. The food was good too!!! Even the carafe of wine was very reasonably priced. Coffee was excellent.Contrary to other reports tables and toilets were clean.

We visited this Restaurant in September 2016. My wife had the "Formula Express" menu, two course for 16.50Euro. I had "Formula 21.50", which, as it's name implies was 21.50Euro, three courses. Both meals where very enjoyable. The restaurant was quite busy, clearly very popular with local people. Staff where friendly and efficient, allowing us to use our dreadful schoolboy/girl French, but, able to understand and speak English, when all else failed. By the time we had worked our way through the large portions, and, consumed a bottle of red wine, most of the other clients had left. At this point, the "Maitre D" produced an accordian and serenaded the remaining diners with "French" music, from "La Belle Epoche". We thought it was a brilliant lunch, hope you enjoy it too.

Travelling from Lyon to our own Chateau B&B north of here, we were looking for a lunch time pit stop and decided to stop in La Clayette. It was a hot sunny day and the restaurant was busy when we arrived. After sorting out a shaded table with the welcoming staff including a table change, we settled in.Lunch was very filling, local Charolais steak with massive serves of potatoes. Drinks and water bottles were cold, much needed.Service could have been better for our party, still worthwhile. Directly opposite the Chateau.

We didn't eat in but it looked fairly quiet when we collected our pizza. But service was fast and pizza was good value.

I guess they simply couldn't cope with the crowd. They refused to give us a la carte as we were walk in customers and only gave us the choice of the menu of the day. Terrine was a bit strange, beef Bourgogne was downright foul. Avoid.
