Just eaten at the Genevraie troglodyte restaurant. Just had to sign in to write a review. Amazing..... Our 2 kids (9&11) LOVED it... A surprise for them. I did all the research of various similar restaurants in the area and chose this one because of the reviews. They did not disappoint. Brilliant from start to finish. Great service, friendly, efficient yet not rushed. Plentiful food, all based around foccacia bread freshly baked in the cave. Various fillings. Definitely left there full up and fill of lovely memories. The invite to tour the caves after the main course was a great treat for all of us and again a lovely surprise for the kids. Can totally recommend. A MUST try for anyone. Yes a novel surrounding but we have eaten at many many restaurants as a family over the years but my son reckons this is one of the best ever. My daughter even tried and LIKED the mushroom based foccacia starter. Thank you for a memorable evening.

It was interesting. You can imagine how these poeple lived only 100 years ago. The information voice recordings were very instructive. There is a total of 3-4 cave-houses to visit. We were expecting maybe long running caves that could take hours to visit. This was not the case. Its like a small farme that was restorated. You can really visit the entire site in 1 hour if you push it. The food was good - the duck rillettes are the best of the filling choice. The flavored butter fillings are good but too fatty.

Great food, a unique and fun experience. I enjoyed the way the dishes were delivered and the setting was sublime.

Having travelled to Lourdes over the past decade, this May (2016) was the first I ever revisited these caves with a school pilgrimage group. All I can say, is that I wished I had discovered this sooner! It was by far one of the best attractions I have ever been to! Fully breath taking and the variation of scenery was simply epic. The train ride at the end was especially excellent! At a brilliant price of 9.5€ (if I remember correctly). Warning - to those who are not able to walk or have difficulties walking down stairs, I wouldn't recommend this for you.

We did not expect this when we arrived at the cave hotel next door. It was packed out but as it was a nice evening they let us sit outside to eat. It's a set menu of a local speciality the fouace with mushrooms, beans, meat plus cheese and salad and a delightful pear and chocolate tart plus an aperitif and bottle of red wine all for €24 per head Super value and great food and ambiance Plus you get a tour of the caves and see the 1000 year old working oven where the fouace are made- brilliant Authentic hearty food and friendly staff - a real taste of France Recommended

Beware! This place has a set menu. You sit, have an aperitif and then the fouace begins! Fouace, fouace and more fouace. Fouace is a cross between a small baguette and pita bread. You stuff it with Jardon pate. You stuff it with mogette you stuff yourself. Very good. Very authentic. Very filling.

Wow, such a wonderful experience, we had a group lunch here and it was delicious. The servers are sweet and charming, the caves felt good to be in and food was unusual and interesting, the best rillettes I’ve every had! Such a charming location. You can go in to watch the bread being baked, they serve these little rounded pita-like bread to you all throughout the meal and it’s baked right there. This is not an upscale place, very comfortable and relaxing, don’t miss it!!

Expected traditional Anjou food at this troglodyte restaurant - simple well cooked fare. What we got was traditional but not well cooked and 24 euros for four courses might be cheap but it was not value for money. We arrived at 8pm and there were only 16 people in the whole place (one was a table of 8). We were given a very small glass each of very sweet white wine - cloyingly sweet. We then had a foace stuffed with mushrooms and cheese which was ok but not that inspiring. This was followed by a very salty greasy pate which was really unpleasant which you melted in a fouace but neither of us could stomach more than half of it. This was followed by a most badly cooked mess of white beans (undrained and unseasoned) cooked with gristled bits of bacon which were overdry and overcooked again with fouaces. We managed to eat about half of the small bowl of this - even my husband who will eat anything and has grown up on a farm would not eat any more and we noticed that the couple on the next table did not touch more than a mouthful of their's and the table of 8 left most of their's. We then had a 'tour' of the cave which involved being pointed in the direction of the fouace oven to watch the breads being put in the oven and then another cave alongside which was illuminated - hardly a tour. We arrived back at our table to the cheese course which was a piece of goats cheese and I think some camembert but both pieces were so small and so dried up it was difficult to tell what they were. We could not bear the thought of the dessert and left after the cheese. Don't waste your money on this place - it is just a rip off for tourists and I guess they fill up at lunchtime with coach parties. We are used to trying out local food and loving the experience and fouaces served with good food are great but this was not good food - it was cheap and nasty food which could not have cost more than about 5 euros each for the ingredients if that. There is no excuse in not bothering to serve up well-prepared food - however basic. It is an insult to the customer to think they will just pay for the 'experience' and reckon they are getting a good deal by getting four courses for what seems a good price. I rarely leave a bad review on Trip Advisor rated restaurants but this time TA you have let us down - or rather your reviewers have
