First night of a long weekend in Beauvais and we were hunting around for food. Le Kiosque is situated on the edge of a small park opposite the railway station. Given it's name and it's situation I was not expecting too much. How wrong could I be. We entered through a small trendy cokctail bar, and were directed through a hidden door into the Restaurant at the back. Here we found Waiters dressed in formal attire and tables properly set. The ambience was that of a very high end 4/5 star restaurant with lovely views of the Park through the full length heated windows. We were presented with our menus and a specials board, all in French. Now my French is not very good at all, and despite taking an educated guess on some of the dishes, some were beyond me. Our waiter could not have been more helpful, translating everything into english for us. His passion for the food shone through and he was clearly pleased to show off his grasp of the english language. I can't remember now what I had for starter and main course but I recall that it was all well cooked and beautifully presented. The one thing I can remember is the Dessert - Omelette Norvegienne - a form of baked alaska, with Meringue, ice cream and fruit, flambed at the table. What a way to end a meal. If you are ever in the area, remember that looks can deceive and don't miss this little gem.
