In addition to excellent creative food, the server is married to the chef and both are young, hard-working and fun. Just talking selfishly, everything was prepared so that I can enjoy it without surprises. When I had to ask about spicing and bell peppers, the server said he would make sure, and he did. At the end of the meal and our compliments for how he could remember every order at a table of 10 with no writing down details, he took me back to the kitchen to meet his wife. My husband and I were immediately made to feel welcome and we were certainly well fed!!Try not to miss this wonderful restaurant with good prices for great food! There is inside and outside seating and we were among many laughing people enjoying terrific ambiance.
I visited this restaurant with a work colleague whilst on a contract locally.Montelimar seems to have more restaurants than people and although I only stayed a week I could have eaten in a different one ever night for a year.So a wonderful place to stay for food lovers.We usually had an evening drink in a nearby bar and on our last night in Montelimar thought we would try the Le Moderne which was a couple of doors along.The restaurant was very small and busy even in early evening.We hadn't booked but the waiter was very helpful and found us a table straight away.From then on nothing was too much trouble.My work colleague was quite discerning on her wine and questioned the waiter extensively because she was drinking red and I white we didn't want to buy bottles.After letting her sample a few she arrived at one she liked.Then the problems started because the menu was in French which neither of us spoke.Again the waiter who by now we had found out to be the owner was equally as helpful as previously explaining the menu with a great deal of patience although the restaurant was so busy.We decided on our meals with the help of the owner and when they came, were superb.I asked if I could have a tiramisu as a desert, he apologised and said they didn't do it, but wait, he would ask the chef who we found out was his wife what she could do.She produced the best tiramisu I have ever tasted.When we were leaving the owner introduced us to his wife who was equally as friendly as him.This was the best dining experience both in food and service I have ever experienced in many, many years.Le Moderne was quite expensive but I would highly recommend it for a place to take that someone special for a lovely romantic evening.
My wife and I ate here on a Friday evening, while making our way to the Cote d'Azur. Our hotel recommended it, and we weren't disappointed. The food was excellent, the wine as well, and the service outstanding. The prices were very reasonable as well. Highly recommended.
Passing through Montelimar we asked at a wine shop (the excellent Saveurs Et Millesimes) for a lunch recommendation, and were directed to Le Moderne.How lucky we were.Quality throughout - the service, the produce, the menu choice, the cooking.What we had thought would be a quick stop for a quick bite became a truly memorable meal.We started with a carpaccio of daurade, and a small salade moderne (prawns, scallops, salmon with parmesan shavings) then continued with one wonderful ravioli with goat's cheese, jambon and black olives, and one wonderful tuna, followed by a shared tarte tatin of apricots......all washed down with a quality rose - and as we hadn't finished the bottle we were given it to take away, in a bag with a special secure stopper.We sat out on the pavement, and as the sun changed direction they moved the table in relation to the parasol to keep us in the shade.What food, what service.Thank You, Le Moderne!
