Each year it is a renewed experience to eat here. Bruno the chef is a master of the Alsacian cuisine and it is an absolute muste to try "jambonneau au Munster" (porcshank with local cheese)or his snails with garlic butter or lambshanks. Drink with it a Gewürztraminer "vieilles vignes" from Boxler.
I had a lovely meal at this restaurant, the highlight of which was a dessert that looked like an ice cream sundae but was a light and delicious meringue with almond sauce. This restaurant has a rustic, homey, old world air. The server was probably the most well organized and hardest working person I've ever seen; she was amazing to watch.
Niedermorschwihr is a picture-postcard-pretty village to the west of Colmar on the Alsace wine route. The village has four restaurants, the others are more highly rated on TripAdvisor and some of which look to be for gourmets. This restaurant www.langerestaurant.fr is part of the hotel of the same name. Booking was difficult: phone call not answered, left voicemail and asked for call back to confirm reservation, no call received and when arrived staff had no knowledge of our booking. Fortunately they could seat us this being midweek. Option of sitting out in courtyard or inside.Meal itself was fine, with a good range of local wines and dishes and less sophisticated than other restaurants so more likely to cater for all generations. Service was efficient and polite but not overly friendly.
We thought we'd kill an hour as we waited for the Domaine de l'Oriel winery to open by having lunch in a sun-kissed courtyard off this village's main road. My prix fixe menu dishes of steak and chips followed by strawberries in a pinot noir reduction with cream were excellent at the price. My wife's fish choucroute was original and quite delicious. Service was always with a smile. (Coffee lovers note, though: the coffee was pretty awful).
très beau restaurant avec une belle décoration. Tout était parfait, accompagné par la gentillesse et le propriétaire compétent et la serveuse. les plats sont proposés sur une ardoise. pour le dessert, j'avais opté pour une compote de pommes revisitée de mille feuilles et une boule de glace cannelle ! Un plaisir ! Bonne continuation !
