Ordered at 12:20 three beers and food. Beers were served in 5 minutes. At 15:15 we asked for our food and we did not get any answer. We left starving and still had to insist to get a receipt. The terrace is beautiful but soaked...More

Yummy! It is rare to find a veggie or vegan item on a French menu and so we were delighted that my husband could make a selection without the usual struggle and disppointment. The hosts couldn't do enough for us, recommending a non alcoholic drink for me and giving us the secrets of his homemade veggie burgers. The chips were handcut with crinkles and, I suspect, double fried. You could actually taste the potato! They were like my mum used to make. We sat outside right by the bridge overlooking the river as the sun set, watching the carp laze in the sparkling water below, and the sand martins swoop around the ancient bridge. So lovely was it, that we intended to go back 2 nights later, but circumstances - alas - prevented us. Next time I'm in Olargues, we will definitely come here again!

We stopped in here with daughter and her partner whilst visiting them. The host was lovely, speaking both French and English, the menu was good for us as we are both vegetarian and the burger and chips went down a treat. It was nice to see a good choice of English beers also, will defeinitely be returning when next in the area.

The very friendly owners made us feel very welcome in their charming restaurant. I had the best home-made french fries( chips) that I've had in years; crisp and golden on the outside and soft and tasty on the inside. The chevre chaud was excellent too! All in all a very pleasant experience. We will be back!

I was really happy to find this bar in Olargues in its stunning position next to the 'devil's bridge'. Don't be scared to open the cave door (if it says 'ouvert') and you will find yourself in the cave's bar, though with a door out to the sunny terrace next to the river. Rik and Nicola are really friendly and accommodating and it's the only place I've come across in France where you can buy an Old Speckled Hen.

I recently stayed for five days in this nice Auberge with his lovely characterful and very nice owners. Rik and nicola went out of their way to accommodate me and made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. The food was excellent and I would recommend everybody to try the delicious grilled Camembert dish, in great detail prepared by chef Antoine who served me many more lovely meals during my stay and on Sunday, I was also treated by Rik with a fantastic roast dinner! My room was warm and cosy and I surely had some good nights sleep. The medieval cellar is turned into a very characterful bar with outstanding views and gives you that holiday feeling we all look for. The locals who are visiting the bar were a pleasant mix of French, British, Irish and Flemish people and a good friendly conversation was never far away thanks to the introductions made by Rik. This is a place you want to come back to! Thank you all for a fantastic stay!!

The canapés provided by the owners to accompany our drinks made for a pleasant early evening socialising on a Thursday winters evening. The new chef in the kitchen has gone a long way to put right the previous problems highlighted in another review. It is a different bar for the village which is quite a traditional French location, le chat is more like an English pub in a idyllic fleur village. The owners are always welcoming and go out of their way to offer lively conversation.

The good news is the location of this restaurant – and the bad news is the terrible food put on our plates on a recent visit, plus the owners' polite but fairly indifferent response to our complaints. We were very disappointed at this as Olargues is a lovely medieval town that needs a few good restaurants in addition to the excellent Fleurs d'Olargues. Based on our experience, however, we recommend people to avoid L'Auberge du Chat Noir. The menu was very limited and I chose a 'veggie burger'. It consisted of fairly dry and tasteless baps, predictable salad stuff, some tinned sweetcorn and - unbelievably - a layer of melted industrial plastic posing as cheese slices. I could hardly believe that a restaurant in France, a country that boasts hundreds of cheeses including plenty with which to cook, could offer vile pinky-yellow 'easi-slice' cheese which tasted even worse than I'd feared. My husband chose the brochette. It was supposed to be barbecued but the meat was bland and cooked evenly instead of having that delicious charred effect on the outside that comes from high temperature cooking, combined with reddish-pink meat on the inside. A further culinary insult came in the form of frozen chips that tasted more of cardboard than of potatoes. Our table was outside with a lovely view of the medieval bridge of Olargues but we left once we realised how little we could eat. On our way out, we complained politely and in some detail. The male owner explained rather defensively that they'd only opened recently and didn't have enough preparation space yet, to which our response was that they should have delayed their opening until they could prepare and cook food properly. He said he was sorry to hear we weren't happy, but that's as far as his regrets went and our overall impression was, well, oh dear, can't please everyone, it's not easy running a restaurant, you win some you lose some...Our meal at L'Auberge du Chat Noir was easily the worst we've had in a long time. This isn't a fast food takeaway or cheapo cafe, it's claiming to be a restaurant, in which it's usual to expect basic fresh ingredients. We also notice that two of four favourable reviews on Tripadvisor are by people who visited but didn't actually eat there!Service was okay and indeed the waiter seemed embarrassed at what he was putting on the table. We don't make a habit of complaining and had really looked forward to our meal. But unless a new chef is found who ditches the industrial plastic cheese and the frozen chips, we can only urge people to eat elsewhere.
