Though a little dated inside the meal was good and excellent value for money. Nice to have linen on the tables and a pleasant outlook. Worth a try.

Le Pierre Lys is a hotel and restaurant that comes straight from central casting of a 1970 location. It is immaculately kept, and presided over by the 86 year-old owner, and offers diners a choice of "menus" or a la carte. The portions are good,...More

We arrived at 7pm, the time my Aunt had reserved a table for 5, to be told, rudely, that the restaurant did not in fact open until 7.30. The manageress just glared at us and did not offer us anywhere to sit, or drinks while we waited, I had to suggest we sat in the lounge, where they ignored us for 30 minutes. We were eventually seated and offered menus with a very poor choice of food and repeatedly asked if we had made a choice without being offered an aperitif, which we had to ask for. We eventually made a choice and ordered our food from a rude and truculent waitress whose intention seemed to be to make the whole process as difficult and unpleasant as possible. We all ordered various grilled meats for a main course, despite the simple order, it took 45 minutes to deliver two of the main courses and 55 minutes to deliver the other 3! I had lamb cutlets, ordered medium, there were four, which ranged between rare and well done. The promised vegetables were one lettuce leaf and 6 greasy, obviously reheated roast potatoes. The other meals were little better. We asked for deserts and the waitress seemed determined that we were all going to have ice cream, whether we wanted it or not. When I insisted that I wanted something other than ice cream, she reluctantly admitted that there was one other choice, creme caramel. The final straw was that they tried to overcharge by 30 euros, fortunately my husband checked the bill. It was supposed to be his birthday celebration but it was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. We were made to feel unwelcome from the start and it went downhill from there, we wondered if it was the chef's night off and they didn't really want us there. It ruined the birthday evening and embarrassed my relatives who had recommended the place. Other guests in the restaurant were repeatedly kept waiting and served the wrong meals, it was like Fawlty Towers without the laughs.

We have been coming here for about ten years with our friends who moved to France about 14 years ago. The service is provided by the 80 year old proprietor and an elderly waitress. We have never been disappointed in either the food or the service. English is spoken but if an attempt to speak French is made then it is very much appreciated and quite often "extras" such as aperitifs and coffee are often freely given. The food is typically French and well prepared and cooked to order. We always have the 4 course table d'hôte which is very reasonably priced at €20 per head. The house wine is always very paletable and again reasonably priced at €8 a carafe. The decor is a little dated but the tables are always pleasantly laid out with clean table cloths and cutlery. Tonight my wife and my friend had the fish of the day and I and my friend's wife had the duck all of which was cooked to individual preferences. There was some French background music which gave a nice French ambience to the evening.

Surprised my first and only experience here as a local was not good. The service was not hospitable, the food was well over priced and totally dated, it reminded me of the sketch from Julia Walters where she was waiting on tables ! I had heard good reports regarding this restaurant however my experience was not !

Very traditional French restaurant, with some interesting options on the menu (unlike most other restaurants in the area!)

I have been eating here for several years, and absolutely love its predictability. It is quintessentially French Provincial cooking at its most straightforward. Delicious, well prepared, served with care and always good.I cannot fault the service, food or ambiance, although the background music can be a touch perplexing; I will return each time I am in the area for a predictably wonderful meal.

Very good value with a distinctly French feel an atmosphere. Has not always a relaxed feeling, but the food is excellent value
