Sadly not a good memory. Service time between order and delivery 45 minutes, only crisps to snack. Meat was good, quality OK, cooked as we requested but seemed cool on the outside ( kept waiting in the kitchen ?? ). Salad and chips ok, nothing spectacular, carafe of rose wine palatable for the price. Would we return ?? bit like an upmarket McDonalds with very slow service, the Buffalo Grill is a better restaurant, individual dinning areas, good salad whilst you wait for your main course. Hippo. OK if you are not rushed. beef steaks are tasty. Plenty of space and TV on the walls to amuse the folks who don't talk to each other !! Visit again ?? maybe 40 %.
We stopped here while on our way from Paris to Brussels.I've been told that Hippopotamus is a chain of steak houses in France, but that they have decent quality meat.The menu is of course mostly steak based with a few exceptions, I don't think you should go here as a vegetarian.I had the "5th Avenue" burger double edition, the burger was good, but I do think the normal one would've been easier to eat.The burger had 2 large patties, bacon, BBQ and I think Andalouse sauce, served with decent fries, it's quite a big meal. Prices were ok, specially sinds it's close to the highway, so it beats anything you can get at a highway stop.Service was fast, and friendly, so I recommend this should need a pitstop.
Thanks for a great meal. The children loved it. Lovely menu with lots of options. Burgers for the boys and chicken burger for me. Nuggets for the little ones.Friendly staff who excused our attempts at rudimentary French.Good activity sheet for the children and for a lover of anything Hippopotamus related was a must ;-)
Stopped here for lunch on the way back to Calais. Good, friendly and quick service. Clean. Don't be put off by the burger part of their menu - burgers in France are nothing like the unappetizing rubbish frequently served up in England - they're made from real minced steak. Excellent and served with real frites. Dog friendly. Highly recommended if you're passing.
We had an overnight stop near Cambrai on our way back to Calais and was hoping to see a nice selection of restaurants in the centre of town which unfortunately wasn't the case. On the way out we spotted this grill style restaurant which looked busy so we pulled in and had a pleasant meal which was just what we needed after a long days traveling. Thought the children's menu was good value with large portions which would definitely suit children up to 12years old. Clean and friendly place which was quite full by 9pm with a good atmosphere.
From the welcome as we entered to the goodbyes as we left this was an excellent experience. Friendly, welcoming service. Delicious food and drink, including yummy free crisps and warm bread buns. We couldn't have asked for better and only wish this chain would make it over the channel and up to Derbyshire!
