What a welcoming fire in such a cosy place on a miserable cloudy freezing day in April. The restaurant was much warmer than any other restaurant on the slopes and served lovely croute, omelette and farcon (delicious sweet potato and bacon cake). The owners were very accommodating with our fussy son and changed the jambon blanc available that day on the kids menu to salami with sauteed potatoes and he was very happy. A beautiful simple tarte mytilles to finish. This isn't haute cuisine but it's not intending to be, it's just genuine simple but delicious mountain food washed down with a carafe of wine. It's good value too. All the lift staff eat here and it stays open even after the ski area has closed as all the workers from the mountain come to eat there.
Following a poor suggestion by the Saint-Gervais station ticket person, who highly recommended this restaurant, we decided to hold off having lunch until we reached the Col the Voza intermediate stop where the restaurant is located. We arrived at about one o'clock, checked the short menu available at the restaurant, sat for lunch and waited to be served. Here are the problems. To begin with, flies everywhere. You might say, it's not the restaurant fault. But, if your business is next to a field (who owns it?) with playing goats everywhere, what do you expect? We should have left right away. But, with no other place to eat around, we subjected ourself to the flying beasts and stayed put. Next, as the drinks arrived, the server spilled a glass of beer (not our drink) on our table top and our laps. Not a word of apology was uttered by the young lady. She just moved on. When it was our turn to order, we attempted to have some clarification about the menu items. Mind you, they have only eight to ten choices. And here is my complaint; If you have a business in an area frequented mostly by tourists, you should have somebody outfront who can speak a few words of English (a very popular language). Able to explain at least some of the ingredients on the menu items. No such luck. So we played the guessing game. A salad and a plate of charcuterie. Simple right? Not so, we waited and waited. It took almost half an hour to get our food while the flies continued to stay with us. Now, the French make excellent cheeses, but they don't know anything about their famed (?) charcuteries. They try to imitate the Italians, but they can't. Keep the cheeses flowing, leave the salami and the prosciutto to others. And, please don't serve salami with the skin still on. The salad (10 euros) was not much better. The jambon was one third fat, and, of course, with the skin still on. Running out of time, the next train was arriving, we paid our bill ever so glad to leave the flies behind. The pitcher of red wine was decent at 8 euros.
The owners are so kind here! Better book in advance, this is the hidden grm of Les Houches ski slopes : Most Alpine recipes are available here. Prices are reasonable compared to the other restaurants. And food is much better! When sunny, large terrasse outside. Try the farçin, not easy to find on the slopes. And the Rioule “croute”, of course.
Après être descendu de Bellevue où nous avons réalisé que nous aurions dû rester, moi-même, mon partenaire et notre enfant de 2 ans nous sommes arrêtés pour ce que nous pensions être un déjeuner relativement savoureux à un prix raisonnable. Notre arrivée a été reconnue avec un air renfrogné de haut en bas et pas même l'ombre d'un sourire de la part d'une serveuse jeune et complètement misérable. Bien que nous ne soyons pas occupés, nous sommes restés assis probablement environ 15/20 minutes avant même que quiconque ne donne un menu. Le choix était restreint. Nous avons commandé 2 croûtes au fromage, des sautés kids knack et pomme de terres, un jus de pomme, carafe d'eau, 2 panache et 2 pintes… le total 78€ WTF ? Pour le déjeuner? Je comprends que vous payez aussi pour le cadre mais… Notre croûte détrempée était tiède avec de la crème caillée (et j'en ai mangé quelques-unes au fil des années ici) et la mienne avait une croûte sombre, courte et bouclée qui, même si cette pensée me faisait encore vomir, J'espérais vraiment qu'il s'agissait simplement des poils de la poitrine de ce monsieur alors que je mangeais dans les environs car il n'y avait nulle part ailleurs où trouver de la nourriture avant d'atteindre Saint Gervais. À en juger par d’autres critiques, je dirais que nous ne les avons pas attrapés lors d’une mauvaise journée. Nous disons de prendre un panier-repas ou de manger ailleurs car cela n'en vaut certainement pas la peine.
Nous sommes arrivés à 14h20, mi-août. Le propriétaire a dit, j'arrive, 2 minutes. La table était toujours sale, pas de problème. Nous avions faim et les plats ont l'air très délicieux. Nous avons commencé à nettoyer nous-mêmes, selon les règles covid bien sûr. 20 min plus tard nous nous approchons de la propriétaire, j'arrive, dit-elle. 20 min plus tard, 40 min de notre arrivée, la serveuse nous a dit uniquement dessert et boissons. Je suis allé voir le propriétaire en lui disant que nous attendions là 40 minutes. La cuisine est fermée, répéta-t-elle. Nous n'avons pas vu qu'il y avait un autre restaurant à 10 minutes à pied, alors nous sommes restés et avons commandé 2 gaufres et 2 cafés. Ni mauvais ni bon. Cher, 13,80€ Si vous arrivez au Col de Voza, choisissez un autre restaurant caché, ils seront probablement plus heureux de vous servir. Encore une fois, le service est épouvantable. La serveuse a donné le pire service que j'ai vu jusqu'à présent.
This is new on our repertoire of lunch spots and it is excellent. The cheese and charcuterie platter is fantastic and we were fortunate enough to be able to have farcon for lunch today, highly recommended! A local dish made with potato, prunes and bacon. Perfect for a sunny lunch on the mountain. If you're not skiing, the tramway du mont blanc stops 20m away. And there are unparalleled views of mont blanc. X
This is a lovely spot at Col de Voza and the only restaurant around. But the food is a disgrace and the service, terrible. We had to wait 30 minutes for a menu that never came. Ended up having to walk to the board at the entrance of the terrace. One more half hour to be served The goat cheese salad is served with poor tasteless plastic style cheese. The croûte au fromage was hardly warm suggesting frozen fare badly cooked. It was possibly the worst croûte I have ever tasted. It’s ridiculously expensive for what you get. Too bad. With such a wonderful touristic location this place is a shame to French cuisine
