This is our local when we stay in France. It is sad that there is no one else actually reviewing it!! We always try to use it while we are here because we like to support the one business in the village.Patricia and Olivier run a friendly bar with good value lunchtime meals, aimed mostly at local workers but also enjoyed by a good number of other people in the know.On this occasion we had a bouche a la reine to start, which was very tasty, followed by a steak cooked over the open fire in the bar, accompanied by chips. Fromage was a piece of camembert and dessert was a very nice rhubarb tart. All washed down with a very passable house red plus water and followed by coffee. All for the princely sum of 11.30€. Not bad at all, and the nice thing is we can walk home afterwards!

It is a shame that I seem to be the only TripAdvisor reviewer that is visiting eating places in this part of rural France!I reviewed La Maison des Fees during our previous visit to France earlier this year. This time we had the opportunity to take along some friends who were staying with us. One of them is a very fussy eater, so we wondered how she would cope with the no menu, eat what you get ethos. We needn’t have worried. We were served with a very tasty hot starter of lardons and small chicken pieces in an eggy, creamy sauce. It was delicious! That was followed by confit duck with sliced fried potatoes, again, very tasty. Then the usual piece of camembert followed by a choice of desserts. At 11€ per person to include bread, wine or cider and water, and coffee, I think that you would find it difficult to beat this for good value.

Tressé is a small village (probably no more than 2 dozen houses in the actual village) that has the advantage of having, in addition to the obligatory church and Mairie, its own bar. Patricia and Olivier have owned it for about 19 years now and made it into a very successful little business. We always feel that in France and in Spain, if you want good value meals, look to see where the workmen eat. And in Tressé weekday lunchtimes you will find a good number of workmen’s vans parked up in the centre, while they lunch at La Maison des Fées.Although the bar is sometimes open for evening meals, without a doubt, it is lunchtimes that are popular, and not only with workmen but locals and others “in the know”.For 11€ you will get a starter, a main course, a small portion of cheese, a dessert, wine or cider, water and a small coffee. There is no menu. There may sometimes be a choice of main courses but, in the main, you eat whatever is being prepared that day. And very nice it is too, with much of the cooking of the main course being cuisine traditionelle au feu du bois, meaning that it is cooked over an open wood fire in the bar.On our most recent visit we had a starter of a nicely dressed small salad of lardons, for main we had pork chops with potatoes, we had our cheese and dessert, all washed down with vin rouge and water and finished with a cafe solo. Everything was very tasty and we think very good value. The added bonus for us is that we can walk home afterwards!

a pleasant lunch among many locals, most of whom seemed to know each other. no menu and the dishes of the day only arrive. the starter, fishcake, was excellent and almost enough for us and there was no possibility that we could all eat. of the delicious home cooked ham, which followed. madame apologised that she gave us a labor part. we refused the cheese, but could not resist the dessert. all that, plus wein for 12 euro. a fun, very local restaurant and highly recommended.
