The service is poor - the only waiter is arrogant, even rude sometimes. I understand is the only waiter for 9 tables, but he can't deal with its customers.Forget about asking the waiter about a wine or anything....The food is just acceptable. We have ordered 3 angus steaks medium done and they give us rare done steaks, all 3 - so it was not a mistake, just a hurry to deliver fast the steaks. All our steaks were mostly red in the middle instead of pink. Not even medium rre, just rare. I will never eat again in this restaurant, and the no.1 postion in tripadvisor is not deserved.

We have stayed in Alsace for almost one week and the food at Le Stewala was by far the best we have had so far.

For our last night in Alsace, we chose Le Stewala and were very pleased that we did. It's not the cheapest in town, but I'm sure it's the best.We shared a mixed salad starter - everyone must, surely, as it's far too much for one (and priced accordingly). Don't hesitate to do this: our friendly and accommodating waiter was happy to bring two plates to our table and to other's (Madame being given the job of dividing it in both cases!). This was indeed a salad but also so much more - foie gras, asparagus, parmesan, salmon. Doesn't sound as if it would all go together but somehow it did.Not a long list of mains, so we both chose the rack of lamb with wild garlic & herb crust.. Perfection! The lamb was delightfully tender. Slightly different cuisson on each, as requested. There were accompaniments of heritage carrots etc, and a pour-yourself lamb jus. But the lamb is what stays in the memory. We watched in admiration as fellow diners received desserts, which looked great. But we simply couldn't manage one.Ambience, decor and service were charming. Prices for this level of cooking are reasonable. Indeed the half litre of wine we enjoyed was probably the cheapest of our trip.We hadn't booked, but at busier times you may well need to. Don't hesitate - go now!

During our stay in Turckheim we wanted one night out for a good meal and this was not a disappointment. Although the information on the web said the restaurant opened at 18.30 we found it didn't open until 19.00 so we reserved a table and as the restaurant filled up quickly this turned out to be a good thing. The host was very friendly although our poor French meant that we probably missed the best of his jokes. To start I had foie gras with a granny smith apple chutney which was excellent and went well with a glass of Gewurztraminer. For main course I had the Baeckeoffe a local speciality which lived up to its reputation. I had a rhubarb and strawberry dessert with saffron ice cream which was excellent. Food was of a great standard and with a good atmosphere. I definitely hope to return on my next visit to the region.

It was very quiet on the evening we went, in fact for most of the time we were the only ones there, but the waiter was very friendly and attentive and made us feel very welcome. We had the rognons de veau (which were amazing!!) with local spezli (cross between noodles and shredded pancake) and duck. All the food was prepared and cooked on the premises and was fantastic, accompanied by a bottle of very nice Vacqueryas wine. Would definitely recommend a visit to this lovely little restaurant.

Our table had the piglet, duck and tartiflette. All great local Alsacian fare. Local beer on tap had run out, but really that's being overly critical. It was a great experience of food and Alcasian hospitality.

The food is fantastic and the atmosphere and service is great. We'd guess it's run by the owners, but there was one very busy very friendly lady at the front of house and one chap in the kitchen turning out incredible food. It's all typical alsacian food but with really care and attention and a modern twist (without being pretentious). Highly recommend and you need to book. Definitely deserves its number 1 spot in Turckheim.

Make no mistake, this is a relatively small place and booking, it seems, is essential - several people were turned away on the night we ate here. There was only one waitress on duty that night, this may be the norm, but she was in perpetual motion all night, I don't think I have ever seen anyone work so hard to keep a restaurant going. This meant a few small waits, but I never want to feel rushed when I eat out so it's a win/win as far as I'm concerned. The food, as we were starting to recognise, is both of excellent quality, but also copious proportions. A starter salad would feed a family of four, with left-overs. I scoffed the lot and still enjoyed my entree...I really liked Le Stewala, it had the feel of a family run business, and run by a family who really cares for their clientele.
