We'd wandered into Noyers-sur-Serein for a stroll around its beautiful cobbled streets, lined by timber framed buildings, surrounded by scenic ramparts. But I'm glad we wandered back out, having seen the sign for Les Granges, to grab a spot of lunch. It's simple stuff done well. A tomato and mozzarella salad, and oeufs mimosa to start; a courgette tart, and quiche lorraine to follow (the pastry the same on both, beautifully short); and a small selection of cheese to round things off. Oh, and there was some great Vézelay beer, which I hadn't expected.Added to the excellent food was a fantastically relaxed courtyard in which to enjoy it. The building appears to have been a former stable block (we listened in as a group at a table behind us was given an impromptu history lesson on the building and the town).Couldn't have asked for anything better.
