We last went to the Moulin de Dausse a few years ago which, as we live quite close by, is a surprise as I don't know why we haven't been back sooner and more often. On the last occasion I did a review which can be found below and we were mightily impressed. We returned on Saturday night to celebrate a friend's 40th wedding anniversary and had another memorable meal. I almost cannot believe that the experience was even better than last time. The food is amazing and imaginative with fabulous presentation, fabulous flavours and exceptionally reasonable prices for what you get for your money. €32.50 gets you a culinary experience you will want to repeat and will talk about for weeks. On Saturday we started with a chicken liver and balsamic vinegar Magnum. Sound weird? It was, but it tasted wonderful. The four starters were equally amazing and absolutely delicious. The mains were a choice of sea bass, Magret De Canard or Veal. I don't usually eat veal for many reasons, not least the ethical ones but I am not a lover of duck or fish so went for it. I should feel guilty for liking it.....but I don't. It was wonderful. I will have to punish myself for saying so but it will be a small price to pay. Next was a dish than can only be described as popcorn ice cream. Again delicious. The array of puddings was to the same standard and demolished in the same manner as the rest of the meal. The ambiance of the restaurant is very pleasant. When the weather is good you sit outside in a sort of bricked in hanger. It's all quite rough and ready but it feels stylish. The indoor dining room is more traditional, bright and stylish. The menu changes once a month so there really is no excuse for not going at least 12 times a year! The wine list is good and reasonably priced to suit every budget. The Service is set at just the right level and is undertaken by Kirsten, the wife of the Chef and on her own! It was busy on Saturday but there were no delays. We sat there for nearly 4 hours and enjoyed every minute of it. The formula is the same as before, the only choices are for the main course, everything else is set. With wine it will work out to about €40 a head with wine. That is exceptional value when compared to some of the other fine restaurants in the area. I hope we don't wait another 4 years before we go back. In fact I am already planning another visit!
