Les Gourmandises de Lili - CLOSED

22 Place de la Republique, 11300 Limoux, France

A very welcoming restaurant we've frequented many times. If you've read my review of Le Grand Cafe, then this is 'the other place' across the square. The food was, as always, faultless. Service was efficient. It was our first evening back in Limoux - 8/10/16 - since August 2015. The first visit by my brother, his wife, and their daughter. We were hungry Ryanair victims, and it looked very accommodating as we entered the square via Pont Neuf. We would usually traverse the square, but not tonight. That came later as post-scran drinks in Le Commerse can't be beaten. We were seated at a large table, upstairs, by a window facing the square. Very cosy. Drinks were ordered. Wine (red). Beer. Blanquette. Coke. Water. We ordered. Food delivered just as the first glass of red drained. I won't labour over the food. No matter what you order it will be excellent. Steak tartare beautifully and properly executed - no mince here! Salad: full; flavoursome; surprising. Dessert: beautifully presented ( yes, still keeping you guessing). Coffee: delicious. When you eat here, you experience a warm and friendly atmosphere that the locals clearly can't get enough of. Always busy. Families. Local businessmen/women. Couples. Kids. Teenagers. Old timers. This is a very affordable restaurant that punches above its weight in all areas. It's not the only one on the square to reflect the above, but it is the only one with a chef that knows what s/he is capable of achieving with a budget that does not reflect the quality of produce. Where Le Grand Cafe is overpriced and up its own bottom, Les Gourmandises is, well, not. 6 people. Two courses. Drinks. 115€ excluding tip.
