Visited this restaurant as part of a birthday weekend From the minute we walked in this was not a pleasent experience the staff were arrogant rude and not verry welcoming as for the food we ordered pizza which was not presented looked awful and tasted no better when we complained got half harted apology from a sneering waitress who then just smirked no offer to put things right we refused to pay for this and left not somewhere I would recommend anyone to visit
Awful service. We waited an hour between the starter and dessert, and they brought the bill before asking if my partner or I wanted dessert. I mistakenly mentioned there were dauphinoise potatoes on my plate when there was actually a fondant. The food was very mediocre; I could have cooked it myself. I don't understand why this place has such good reviews— it was empty on a Saturday night, and now I see why. I won't be returning.
What a fabulous space, listed building with a bit of history, matched with very attentive service and food which was almost terrific, but for a few minor details like a lack something green to give colour and variation to an otherwise great venison three ways, for example. Definitely worth a visit, even in the competitive market that is York's food scene.
I had a superb evening meal which was great value for money, the staff were lovely they didn't rush you to vacate the table. I would recommend this place to eat. When I come back to York I will be booking again. Réservez une table maintenant
Plenty of choice on the menu. Good quality for both food and service. Unhurried relaxing lunch. Fair price. On the basis of this meal booked for a family celebration. No problem recommending.

Great for pre-theatre meal, small portions food not very hot but tasty. Just one veg was served. Good location. Staff. We're lovely and the service was quick.
