540 Kitchen Bar has a great selection of beer, wine, and tasty treats.. Definitely a must-try if you're new to the neighborhood or just passing through town. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere has a really cool, trendy vibe. I usually come on the weekend with a few friends, but I could see 540 being a fun spot to go for happy hour drinks and apps to unwind after a long day at the office too! Just had the most amazing dinner. I highly recommend getting reservations especially when there is a large convention in town. I started with the feature summer salad that had fiddleheads, asparagus and a poached egg. The egg was not too runny and flavored perfectly with the lightly blanched fiddleheads and asparagus. I paired with a Hammond's Radler which unfortunately was a bit more on the hoppy tasting side than fruity. I think i would have gone with a Pino Grigio or Riesling if I had a do over. Attentive and very friendly service, classy yet casual ambiance, but 3/5 because of the less than stellar food. Creative dishes and fusion spins on their meats and seafood, such as the kimchi baos and escargots with cheese, but perhaps my expectations were too high for this gastropub. My squash (vegetarian) risotto was very mediocre, bland and watery. The beef steak was also disappointing dry and the fries on the side would have been better if replaced with something more wholesome. I've had lunch here 3 times over the past few months. each time the menu has changed with always interesting fare. The salads seem to change depending on what is in season and is tasty. This is food that is made by someone who cares. The Mushroom bean burger is reasonably moist. The 540 Burger works well. The beer list is small but well thought out. The cocktails are made by someone who knows what they're doing.
I brought my family and some out of town guests here after my sister's wedding! It was 16 people and they did a fantastic job accommodating a big group (which include several noisy children). I can't thank them enough for the amazing food and the incredible service.
