I decided to try this place in a mood. I just picked it up on Google search. Here's my take? Pros: There are plenty of parking spaces on the back. Parking is shared with other restaurants next to him. The staff was nice. The sushi cook came to my table to say hello. The ambience is beautiful. I had the green beans in garlic sauce appetizer and it was really good. Negative: I hate to say it, but the nigiri sushi was something of the worst I had in my life. It was cut very thick and sloppy. First, this restaurant offers good food with affordable prices. I?ve to give it that. However, the service is really slow. Plus, they charged me with a higher price on a certain item which?s cheaper on its website. Then the manager refused to honor my tax exemption status granted and recognized by the U.S. State Department without even taking a look on the official website of the State Department. It?s a pity indeed. Update: the manager even asked his colleague to call the police. Then I showed him every document proving my status. He apologized but didn?t want to honor my lawful rights.
Yum-Yum a dem-sum!! Had the Beef Teriyaki 'Tempura', friend had the 'Sushi Special' and both were served by the vivacious 'Karen' (they bring class and elegance back to this historic name). I didn't think the parts would fill me, but they certainly did. This place has been for over 40 years and still strong due to the fine cooking preparation capabilities of Fumito (or Fumi for short) brings fresh seafood, fish, products and various other delicious items every day. Great meals at a modest fair price! Right next to the 'Ol Rialto Theater in South Pasadena.
The prices are good, the fish is fresh, I would have rated 5 but our server was not the best, we had to keep asking her to bring basic things. We were served miso soup but not given spoons. We were sat and she took our drink order but did not give us menus or the QR scan card until we asked. Just seemed very inattentive and forgetful. Probably a bad day, we will try again but ask to be seated with a different server.

It used to be really good, but the last three times I went their California rolls have this huge pile of cucumber where this is all I taste, also they use too much rice vinegar...now I go over the street, miss the old chefs at Ai though.
Food is excellent, service was slow, but not excessive, so in these difficult times the lack of more staff is needed. This is a very established Japanese restaurant that I have enjoyed for years.
I love their food absolutely delicious everytime we go, except their teriyaki chicken is always served cold and slightly under cooked, that is the only reason I give Ai 4 stars.

Nice place, good prices and very friendly. Fish was fresh and tasty. Lunch specials are hard to beat and more food than I could eat. Delicious.
Lovely Japanese owned restaurant tucked away in South Pasadena. Had wonderful service from Fumi
