Having eaten here numerous times since it’s re-opening in a new, stylish space, Akari is definitely in the top 5, non-michelin restaurants in San Sebastián. The food, a subtle mixture of Basque and Japanese flavors and textures, is always meticulously prepared. With special sauces on fish, from Merluza (hake) to Bacalau (cod) to Mero (grouper), the dishes are a wonderful variation and change from the usual (but, also very tasty) traditional basque way of preparing these dishes. This city is supposed to be Foodie Heaven, but I find Pintxos greasy and overrated, the bars noisy and dirty, and the waiters rude. I was disappointed in San Sebastian... Until finally, far from the madding tourist crowds, we found Akari, a wonderful Japanese-Basque fusion restaurant. Clean, quiet, polite... and OMG the food! Very small menu, market-fresh everything, prepared to order and served with a smile. If you were a fan of Txubillo, the great Japanese/Basque fusion restaurant, you’ll be thrilled to know Akari is the reincarnation of that gem. Many of the same great menu items, from the foie, tempura veggies, beautifully prepared fish and delicious torrija “french toast” dessert with ice cream). Also on the menu are some new items which are sure to please and we will be trying them on our many return visits. En general la comida no nos ha desagradado, pero tampoco ha sido nada espectacular, ni nos ha entusiasmado. El servicio bastante flojito, y en el comedor hacia bastante calor (creo que son conscientes porque tienen puestos varios ventiladores en toda la sala. El precio nos ha parecido algo elevado para lo que es. Hay mejores opciones de restaurantes japoneses en San Sebastián.

réception et cuisine en tenue japonaise. tout est très propre et bien commandé. Carte avec un large choix de préparations de poisson ou de viande. Les plats sont très bien présentés, peu de graisse, pas de sucré, que de bonnes choses que vous mangez avec grand plaisir. Carte des vins bien éprouvés où vous trouverez votre bonheur à des prix toujours raisonnables.
Comimos sushi para empezar, todos los pescados buenísimos. Hasta la salsa de soja era mejor que lo normal. Luego yo comí una panceta guisada excelente y un pastel de chocolate hecho con un cacao muy bueno acompañado con helado de avellana. Los vinos, muy bien escogidos.
Came here on the back of a recommendation. The menu was pretty small but we were still stuck for choice as it all sounded great. The mix of Basque and Japanese flavours worked really well and delivered a unique taste which was delicious!

Cena estupenda . Hemos cenado muy bien. Todo muy rico y el servicio muy atento. Destaco el entrecot y las gyoza, así como sus salsas.
