The Alex is well known in Zermatt for good reason. While the hotel was built around 1960 the décor makes it look like it 's been there for a century. It is very Bavarian/Chalet in appearance and it all looks real, not like a modern hotel that is trying to be something else. Our room was spacious and comfortable as was the bathroom. We had a large balcony that offered a stunning view of the peaks around the town, including the Matterhorn, and of the town itself. The food in the restaurant and the breakfast buffet were both excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive. We went there pretty early so the place was empty. The ambiance was nice and a bit elegant.The meat was cooked to perfection and it was so tender, we loved the food. I had the best polenta of my life, as a side dish. The wine selection was also good, we had some lovely wine from the region. The service was friendly and fast. I can only recomend this restaurant.
