This restaurant is a great option for a quick meal. The food is consistently good, and I often stop by whenever I'm in the neighborhood. I used to eat here regularly when I worked nearby. While many other Al's locations have closed, I'm glad this one is still open. Chicago has a wide variety of Italian beef places, and opinions on them can be quite personal. Personally, I've always preferred Al's over Portillo's, Mr. Beef, or Buona. However, for me, Johnny's on North Avenue remains the best. This Al's offers a larger menu and is located on the other side of town, so if you're in the area, it's worth stopping by for a bite. I live in South Carolina, and I came across some social media posts from people in Chicago asking where to find Italian Roast Beef. Some people claimed it could only be found in Chicago, while others suggested making it at home and shared their recipes. Today's combo is from allegedly the innovator of the Chicao Style Italian Beef, AL's Beef. It is arguable the preceeding claim, but what is not arguable was that it was a great sandwich. The beef was tender and flavorful, the green peppers were plentiful and tasty, the gardineria was good, the bread held its form while being extremely juicy and the gravy (while some don't like the cinnamon/nutmeg spice profile) was one of my favorites. The Beef/Sausage ratio and price point value was excellent. The sausage was average was the only non exceptional part of this sandwhich. This is a must have combo
I absolutely love Al's Beef! I couldn't stop thinking about it all night, so the next morning I drove from Huntley, IL, to get a well-dipped beef sandwich with peppers and American cheese. The service is always incredibly fast, and the gentleman who took my order was very courteous. The place is always spotless! Al's Beef never fails to impress, and I can't wait to return next month.

I currently live in Colorado, but whenever I visit Chicago, I always have to stop by Al's. It's my favorite spot to get an Italian Combo, and I will definitely make a trip there every time I'm in Illinois.
