Finally made it to the RSL after moving here for three years. My partner had been coming for as long as it’s been open and raved about it. Modern building and amenities including generous dining spaces, pokies and bar. Menu is good and there is certainly something for everyone. I had chicken Kiev and my partner had surf and turf both with chips and salad. Generous portion sizes and flavour was pretty good. It’s really a pub meal and has similar atmosphere. Excellent for seniors and disabled people who are well catered for. Kids as well. Bottle of Pepperjack to round off a nice evening. Well worth a visit
Arranged a gathering of some friends at Altona RSL. First of all a band was playing and it was full of drunks having a good time. We arrived just before meal time to have a drink in time for dinner before the others arrived. Drink prices are reasonable. We selected a couple of mixed grills and a couple of other meals. The mix grill was terrible the steak on it was absolutely horrid,grisly and fatty. They charged $25 each for this shocker and the prices are similar to restaurant prices.We left there not impressed and won't go back.
I love the new renovations that Altona RSL have managed to have during the lockdown. It is a fresh new look whilst still being able to have a beautiful display of all the memorabilia that an RSL should have. I love sitting out in the new alfresco area in front of the fire and watching the footy on the big screen TV. Highly recommend. They also have a cocktail menu at very reasonable prices and they were delicious!
The food In The Gunners bar and bistro is typical pub food, at reasonable prices. I came for a Sunday lunchtime to see them overwhelmed and understaffed. They handled this with grace and flexibility and the guests responded well. There were bargain seniors' meals and lunchtime specials. I ordered a steak sandwich with chips for just $12. I ordered the seafood risotto and asked if it was fresh. The chef was not honest. It was chewy and rubbery like most frozen fish. The rice also lacked any real flavour. One would expect better for the price. My local restaurant makes a delicious risotto. I also don’t recall seeing the public holiday surcharge displayed on the premises.
Disappointed that they took the seniors lunch off the menu for that day only seen as my father is 87 years old and a member. Also stopped their $12 lunch special for that day only too. So we ordered didn't get members discount and manager of Bistro was unapologetic. Lunch was good, came out in dribs and drabs not all at the same time.
The Gunners Bar and Grill at the Altona RSL has good food at reasonable prices. It is not fancy and has a friendly, but casual approach to service. There are specials each day and a senior's menu of 1, 2, or 3 courses at good prices. The food is typical for a pub, but has a range of options.
The quality and quantity of the food were good and the prices reasonable. Staff can be a bit casual in service provision and my lunch did take much longer than expected to be ready. It was nice being inside in the warm than outside in the bleak weather. Réservez une table maintenant
