We originally visited this pub about eight years ago, we really enjoyed it then and if anything it was even better second time around. It is full of nooks and crannies spread over several floors and with an outdoor terrace with heaters it is ideal whatever the season. It is a find a table remember your number and order at the bar place but it is a cut above the usual fahre. Halloumi in butter was absolutely excellent with an almost tempura light batter. The triple cooked chips very nice as was the crispy squid. The star of the show though was the humble hispi cabbage. Crunchy and dripping in butter it was delicious and a complete steal at just £2.50 as a side. Couple everything with a lovely...

Having finished a lovely day's visit of The Eye, The Southbank and Borough Market, my friends and I chose The Anchor Bankside to have a drink and eat a late lunch early dinner. From the outside it looked like a nice place that would probably offer quality food and service. We found a table, ordered our drinks and food and sat with a nice view out across the river to Saint Paul's. Until now, everything ok. However, we then waited for an hour for the food to arrive. When it finally did, one of the dishes was incorrect and the correct plate (the special of the day) was actually no longer available. The other two plates were cold, and not just a little bit! In addition, one of the ladies toilets...
Very disappointed. We arrived about 5.15. There was an indication on the table that the table was reserved for 6.30 which was fine. At 5.45 when we were just getting another round in security guards appeared and said “you must leave now”. It was intimidating they were in security uniforms (A) if the table was needed for 5.45 why didn’t the note on the table say so? (B) why send quite intimidating security guards? A manager or somebody could could have quietly said “I am sorry but we need the table, would you mind moving on in ten minutes or so? And (C) why didn’t they indicate where we might be able to move to to finish our drinks?
So found a table at 5.30. It said reserved at 6.45 At 5.45 these security goons turned up and said they wanted the table now, ie an hour early. They said if we didnt move they would throw us out. which is interesting as that would be a criminal offence and my SAS training would probably have seen them in the river. A polite manager asking us to move would have had the same effect but not blighted our experince of this pub. Avoid Réservez une table maintenant
Looked like a nice spot but when we all went in to order a pint from the bar it was cashless so we all left. Will never return until they accept legal tender, CASH is king. It's a pub come on get with it. These places deserve to suffer if not having the choice of cash or card. Pitiful really
Located near the Thames, this spacious pub and restaurant offers plenty of seating options. The staff was friendly and the food was tasty. While prices may be on the higher side, the convenient location could justify the cost.
Rude staff, badly prepared food. This place is cashing in on its history and location. By all means come in and look around but don’t spend any of your hard-earned cash here.
Beautiful location for one of the oldest pubs in London. Very close to The Clint first jail (goal in Brit speak). At one time The Anchor was the... Réservez une table maintenant
