I only had time to visit this restaurant on CIA's campus, but the sensational food here makes me want to return to sample other restaurants. Simply put...it was a fantastic meal. Due to COVID restrictions, the restaurant was offering a limited menu. One of the student workers noticed that we were having difficulty making a entrée choice and quickly gave us the lowdown on what was best on the menu, including the chicken pot pie and the mac and cheese. Both of those were delicious! I'm not a fan of chicken pot pie, but this was extraordinary. The crust was light and flaky and the pie's contents were cooked to perfection. The mac and cheese was excellent as well. After tasting those two entrees...
I used to love going to Apple Pie Bakery, but now it feels more like a fast-food cafeteria. After placing our order, we had to find a table (many of which were dirty) and wait to hear our number called. Unfortunately, we had to get up multiple times to collect each item as they were brought out separately. Instead of bringing our food to the table, they only provided paper bags and cups, and there was no water available like they used to have. The sandwiches no longer seemed freshly made, but rather prepackaged in plastic containers. It was much better years ago when we had to wait in line to order and they delivered the food to our table. The cia has been on my Bucket list for years, what a wonderful campus! we stopped at 12:30 a.m. and took several baked and drinks (more flavored ice cream are available, and also bottled drinks) because we did not feel hungry enough for an salad or sandwich. the pupils got a definitiw a from us for beautiful, tasteful pastries that could have been in a high-end restaurant. I felt the prices were fair (a large fresh baguette for, I think, $3.50) from a well guarded counter, where our choices were boxed and bagged, then we chose a table in the neighboring esbereich. it was a bit loud, but it was clear that everyone enjoyed his café stop.
What can one say about the culinary. They should expect the best and Apple Pie is as fine a casual coffee shop and restaurant as one could find. My associate and I visited twice a week for many years until covid hit. We met Mauro it's professor manager who understands everything about the restaurant industry. While visiting my daughter, I had a day to myself and was driving from the Loeb at Vassar to Hyde Park. Since I had been to the CIA several times in the past, I knew I could make a quick stop to get a delicious lunch. It did not disappoint. There was a line but it moved quickly. I ordered soup (and bread to go) and sat in the seating area. Due to COVID there was no table service which did not bother me at all.
Take a break from touring the CIA and try the delicious offerings made by the students. Indulge in beautiful sandwiches, fantastic baked goods, and interact with the friendly students who take pride in their work. It's a great opportunity to support and enjoy the products of their hard work.
