Our first visit to Kinloch Lodge, for lunch, and we loved it. Friendly welcome from staff with prompt but not hurried service. We sat in a beautifully decorated small dining room, overlooking the front gardens and loch beyond. The menu was a delight, with options for small tasting plates as well as full sized mains. Highlights were the sesame toast langoustines and the venison pie, absolutely delicous. My husband thoroughly ejoyed the partridge starter and sirloin steak. Sadly we coukdn't manage desert but settled for coffees then a much needed walk around the grounds to work it all off. The meal in the Restaurant was very disappointing and would not have warranted the high class statues it falls into. I had languastines, they were served cold , never had them ever served like that with a small salad, dressing was awful. I then ordered their smoked haddock fishcakes, again uneatable, overdosed in salt, my husband had mussels, they were alright but when it came to his main course of venison pie, he had to abandon it as the venison was like pulled pork, very dry and chewy, couldn't believe the standard of the food! We were put in a dining room which had 3 tables, not the main dining room, this room had no heating on, very very disappointing especially as it was our 48th Weddin...
This restaurant was a big disappointment and I do not recommend it. The service was very awkward, with staff seeming unsure of what they were doing or just rushing to turn tables quickly. Despite noting our gluten and shrimp allergies in our reservation and confirming them upon arrival, we were served canapés that were not gluten free multiple times. The meals were odd and lacked cohesion, despite attempts at inventiveness. There was much uncertainty around gluten-free options for dessert, with conflicting information given each time. Overall, I was not confident that the fondant I received was gluten free. I have had much better experiences and food at other restaurants in Scotland.
We stayed at the lodge in March 2020 with the pandemic on our heals and we had a great time that supported our spirits over the next 2 years, with was hard. We are staying at Glenelg so a short hop on the turn around ferry for lunch at the Lodge. Lunch did not disappoint and the sun shone into the small dinning room. Dishes were on the whole spectacular although pastry slightly heavy on the venison pie, hence not quite the anticipated 5. went for lunch, one of us had the pie of the day, excellent. the rest of us tried the tasting plates. oh boy they were great. I had the rabbit, hake and the beef dishes I never wanted the beef dish to finish as was enjoying it so much. still had room for pudding, I had the pavlova and berries very nice it was also. the rest of the party enjoyed their meal also. then sat is the newly redecorated lounge having our coffee and nice shortbread. very pleasant time had . staff very nice.
Beautiful setting and gorgeous food. However not quite the 5* experience expected. Our waitress was lovely and very friendly however we felt quite rushed as the next course came out as soon as we put our cutlery down for the previous course; it felt like they were rushing to get us out the door. This was peculiar as we then had a long wait for our pudding- the opposite of the two previous courses! Food was outstanding though and would go back again 100%.
This restaurant offers good value, fantastic flavors, and a great atmosphere. Despite seeing some negative comments about the service, it is important to remember the challenges that places like this face with staffing. We had a great experience with no complaints and felt well taken care of. We were also happy to support a longstanding local business that has likely been impacted by Covid. The pricing was also very reasonable.
Have visited a few times. Great location for Sunday lunch. We had a comfortable table in the very attractive dining room with a lovely view. The starters and desserts were very good. The mussels were exceptional. The roasts were of a very high quality and generously portioned. Service was fine but not quite as good as we have previously encountered but still a very good lunch. I dined at the lodge every evening while I was staying there, and there was no need to go anywhere else. The cuisine was a delightful combination of local flavors, innovative dishes, and mouthwatering flavors. The wine selection was extensive and of great quality. The service was welcoming and attentive, making me feel right at home. It was truly a fantastic dining experience.
