I've loved coming here when visiting family in the Chicago area. The appetizers are all really good. This time we got three spreads (taramosalata, melitzanosalata, tirokafteri). The taramosalata is made with cod roe and tastes a little like egg salad to me. Not my favorite but the rest of the table loved it. The melitzanosalata is made with eggplant and the tirokafteri is spicy feta. Both of those were great with the latter being my favorite. We also got the saganaki, which is a delicious chewy cheese set on fire at the table, and grilled artichokes. Two of the entrees ordered were the tavern style lamb chops and the Moussaka. terrible. eating is quite good, but the restaurant is so hungry for the business that it allows a large loud party to take over its outside area. the party didn't even sit down. they stopped, drank and finally cried to each other to be heard. Of course, no masks were masked, the level of the Kovid risk was increased even higher. conversation at other tables was impossible. a series of diners actually, halfway through their dinners, moved to an interior. Before they go, call them and make sure they don't plan to turn the outside into a loud party area.
Fantastic staff and customer service. A memorable moment was being serenaded in Italian a capella. Always wonderful food and ultra considerate service. Our waiter even teased giving grandma the empty black folder that holds the check a great laugh because of course she wasn't going to pay for her own birthday dinner yet was acknowledged as the matriarch and head of the party. We had a lot of fun and can't wait to visit again. Gma has been reserving the private room here for a long time! I presume we will be coming back for years to come!
santorini, what an excellent meal. we ate dinner on the outside terrace and were marveled by authenticity. we loved the Philo-Tough-Puwns. they asked us for more. you might think that chickens are boring, but nowadays there are not enough meat served on sticks. definitiw order them. I believe it from today, everything. the sampler spread with the warm pita? it's not hard to warm up broth, why don't all do that? ingenuous. sometimes it's the simple things.
avli is amazing! the dishes were delicious, the chicken is grilled to perfection with all the beautiful spices. my friend had the aprons, we also shared the garnels. I felt like in breathing! great place, outside the terrace is very cozy with a retractable. the personal is very friendly. they are super busy, so take them time or come early!
Came here for lunch and everything was just okay. My wife got the gyro sandwich and I got the bbq lamb sandwich. Fries that came with them were undercooked and lacking major flavor. The bbq lamb was pretty tasty but the gyro meat my wife had was mediocre at best. Have definitely had better gyros from fast food type places.
Came here yesterday for dinner after reading many good reviews. Maybe an off day but it was not good. The appetizer spreads were ok, but the dinner was awful. My salmon was way overcooked and the other fish dish (the Poseidon) and the veggie side dishes were bland. Don't plan on coming back.
a star for the nice young who answered the phone and took our call. the gyros were extremely dry and tasteless. the dead were a single end. also a couple of shards. big. the lachs was also dry with a full of wobbles. we have made our quality concerns printed. I never called again.
