The "Landgasthof Bären" is a 3star hotel and restaurant which goes back to the early 15th century! This tavern was well known already during the times where postal carriages stopped here with their travelers. If you really want to enjoy traditional swiss food you have to eat here. I can highly recommend the various menus from venison/deer. The staff is very friendly and the food is excellent.
on our way to a berner mountain dog we puppy through sumiswald, known as the place that sbb train station clock is made, looking for lunch during a global pandemic that has closed most restaurants. the very friendly (and COVID-Safe) baren restaurant was...big! we enjoyed our rosti and salat choices. Price/quality ratio is about typical of the Swiss, chf 120 for three people at lunchtime
If you want to experience the real Emmental, Central Switzerland, this is the place to visit. Good food, fancy international or local, they serve it. From the local "Berner Platte" to "Rösti" to "Sliced veal" and "Meringue mit Nidle" dessert they serve it all. The restaurant is located in a classy old, but renovated, country inn (with very nice rooms!).
very nice old restaurant/hotel in the center of the village opposite the beautiful church. the traditional menu was excellent: local sausage (bratwurst) with great fresh roesti (baked kartoffeln.) simple but excellent local cuisine very well prepared with local Emmenthal style. the people who were very friendly and helpful.
