BXJ (we just call it bagels in our house) is SO much more than bagels. It 's a bagel shop in the morning, a sandwich/chicken place by day (with some Mexican thrown in), and pizza and pasta for dinner. As we were eating lunch the other day, my husband said it 's like Jarrett is a mad scientist who just comes up with ideas and throws them on the menu, but it 's always like the best version of the thing. We also say that everything at BxJ lives by the rule more is more. If it 's expensive on the menu, it 's cause it 's HUGE. For instance, their onion rings are perfection. They also cost $18, because it 's enough onion rings for at least four people.So lucky to have BxJ in our town!
I ordered the gluten free bagels. I've been celiac/gluten free since 2004 so I've tried most varieties.These bagels were tiny and very dense. They had the consistency and taste of homemade playdough. Udi gluten free frozen bagels bought in a grocery store are way better. I have bought gluten free bagels from an online strictly gluten free bakery back in 2004 when gluten free options barely existed and they were better. I'm going back to Plum Bakery in Montclair for now on.I bought a regular plain bagel for my daughter.The regular bagel was very stiff and tough when I cut it in half for her. She liked it but she's 6...I was disappointed.
I tried the Lord Caesar, Eggplant Flatatini, and Broccoli Alfredo Ravioli. The romaine in the Lord Caesar was perfectly cut and fresh. However, the bagel chips tasted stale, and the dressing was too garlicky. The Eggplant Flatatini came with an overly sweet red sauce, and the eggplant itself was a bit bland, although the cheese gratin on top was done beautifully. The Broccoli Alfredo Ravioli had a soft and unique texture, but the presence of whole peppercorns in the sauce was quite unappealing while eating.

We didn't even make it out of the parking lot before we started to eat our bagels from BXJ.Service was super quick, online ordering was a breeze, and as soon as we pulled up someone came out asking for our order number..We got the egg and cheese sandwiches, and every bagel was ?, but the doughnut tho.. ??Can't wait to try the rest of their menu!
This was my second visit, and unfortunately, I wasn't allowed to go inside, so I can't comment on the interior. However, my chicken Parmesan was overcooked. I have to give them credit for the flavor, though—it was fantastic. I spoke with the server, who encouraged me to come back for a replacement dish. I definitely plan to return!
I absolutely love this restaurant! The owner is fantastic and incredibly accommodating. As someone with Celiac disease, I have to follow a strict gluten-free diet, and they have an excellent selection of gluten-free options. I actually don't mind driving 30 minutes just to eat here or take food home!
Ordered the bagel with bacon egg and cheese so delicious! Very nice people, too! You don't go in to eat though, they come out and take your order.
