We booked the day before and we were excited to eat and have good time on top of that hill. The restaurant is nice and has a great panorama. We asked to get the menu after 10 minutes we were waiting. We ordered at 12:45, we waited for more than 1 hour to get the food. They said all the services were having delays. The bill was expensive and they did not applied any discounts for the delay. The food is expensive and we knew it in advance, we were thinking that for a view like it was a deal. Unfortunately the experience was not great. I anyway suggest to go and try, probably it was simply bad luck.
I love this place. I come here to special occasions and have not even regretted it. eating is always delicious, only the perfect amount of seasoning. if they have a few ribs, they go for the big part of them are really hungry. the staff is always helpful and nice, although our waitress was hard to smile. the view is absolutely stunning, they can see a French castle from the terrace, a few small cities and basel with the large white Roche towers. the restaurant is highly recommended if you hike in the environment, you should stop here also for a drink and check out the view.
The Bergmatten restaurant is located 20 km from the city of Basel and exactly 699 m above sea level, high above Hofstetten (SO). On this summer evening we had a great view of the surrounding communities as far as Basel and the hustle and bustle at the airport. Plus, hearty food, friendly service and a very pleasant atmosphere.
We had a lovely dinner with our three kids. We parked the car at the parking at the bottom. We had a lovely hike of 30 minutes through a beautiful gorge and finally reached the restaurant. We had a table on the covered terrace with an amazing view. Great service and the food was delicious. Definitely a place to go.

The view is great. The service was friendly. But the food is not special and there are no vegetables and the price is too expensive for what there is. The spaetzle were dry, the rest was fine..... 1 scoop of ice cream for 5 Fr. Without cream.. Don't come back.
eating was amazing, but the service kept us waiting very long. we just sat outside so they might have forgotten us? that shouldn't happen.
Simply sensational again. The ambience, the view, the service and of course the food. I always enjoy going there!
Delicious food, friendly waiters and a beautiful view. However, not particularly cheap either.
