We dined here over Easter and had booked as this restaurant is popular with Surrey Hills locals. It's a set menu.We both had the calamari as first course, my wife had the whiting and I had the steak as main course followed by a crepe suzette and the chocolate mousse. The calamari was cooked well as were the whiting and steak (but see later comments). The chocolate mousse was good, but the sauce for the crepe suzette was watery and lacked flavour.So why the poor rating? Firstly the tables along the window seat/bench are just too close together. During our meal we had to rearrange our table to allow the diner at the next table to get out. We were not unique in this and it was a trend repeated...
It had been almost a year since our last visit: travel had interfered with our opportunities to return more regularly, but with a special event to celebrate, the obvious venue was our local restaurant where we could indulge in the wonderful food, drink some good wines and walk back home, without a worry about the breathalyser.As always, the welcome was warm and genuine and, even though some of the wait staff had changed, the level of service still at its efficient and considerate best. We came here for a dinner with another couple mid week. Loved all the food, we all shared the entrees, so tasted all of them. Delicious, simple pretty presentation, tasty and moreish. We all had whiting on a bed of rice with ratatouille, which was tasty, although not venturous, we enjoyed it. Dessert is an event, lots of little petite fours presented on a tiered cake platter, divine! The service is efficient, warm and unobtrusive. We took our own wines, and there is a corkage charge. Good news too is that we parked easily directly outside the door on the street, easy access for the less athletic. Its cosy, so if you are with a big group I think booking ahead would be the go.
They have a set menu, and when we visited it was a special xmas menu. We chose the charcuterie for 2 which was uninspiring except for the pate which was wonderful. The other meats consisted of ham and salami - not very french !! I had the duck a l'orange for the main and it was superb. Then there was a cheese course one of the cheeses had praline with it which was a bit strange. Then a dessert consisting of 13 small dessert bites - all a bit sweet, could have done without this course. Over all very nice ambience and great service. We ate at Bistro Chez Nous on a recent Friday night. It is a tiny place with eclectic decor and a cosy atmosphere. The food and service were both excellent, as they were on a previous visit more than a year ago. We had the three-course set menu at $49 per head with three options for each course. The options are quite traditional. I chose the charcuterie platter for entree, coq au vin for the main and lemon meringue tart for dessert.
We visited this bistro recently with our adult son for Sunday lunch, and were all pleased with the quality of the food decor which is tastefully done. There are large windows from two aspects bringing much light into the space. We were beautifully welcomed and the staff were attentive and ready to please.The chef came to our table and we had a delightful chat with him. And, last but not lest the prices are moderate.
The restaurant is small & cosy and very French looking.Food was amazing we had the the set menu $49.00 per person,For starters we had the shared platter for 2, it was lovely the pate was yum.For main had the fish, it was beautiful served on rice heaps of flavour,Then desert was a platter of lots of different things to try, amazing.Very friendly staff, will be back soon.
Great regional french food. Mums the Chef and son is front of house. They put on a special menu to coincide with what part of the region the tour de france stage is at. We had food from the Provence Region. Choice of 3 entrees, mains and deserts. Mum does or did french cooking tours to France, Hmmm something to consider. Réservez une table maintenant
Friendly atmosphere, courses that complement each other, who cares if you can't pronounce it. Service helpful and efficient, so much so you don't notice the regular interaction. The food arrives when it should at the right temperature. The Wine matches food and BYO no problem.
