We had dinner here a few hours ago. For all the hype we were quite disappointed. The decor and the patio are gorgeous but the food is another matter. My husband was served his beer in a glass that had a broken part on the bottom and it was quite sharp too. He asked the waiter twice to have it replaced and finally asked another waiter who did replace it. We both ordered the "Montrealer Smoked Meat"" (as we are both born and raised in Montreal and it was a bit of nostalgia). Bad move!! Smoked meat is always served on RYE bread with MUSTARD. What we got was a ciabatta bun with mayo - thank god we asked for no cheese which was on the original menu. The fries were not bad but the side salad that...
This is the third time I have eaten here, each year I visit Comox, going here is part of my vacation with family. We reserved ahead of time, which is a must if you do not want to wait in line. We always ask for a window table, they have an outdoor patio as well facing the ocean. There were 5 of us and we all had a wonderful meal. Mine was halibut fish and chips, and we shared appetizers of Lobster Ravioli Trio with Prawns and Bacon Wrapped Scallops. Make sure you have enough time for dinner and relax, it will take some time for ordering and eating, as they are very busy. At one time, I have to be honest, we didn't enjoy eating here. BUT out of curiosity we decided to try it one more time. And we were NOT disappointed. The service was amazing. The food, top notch! and of course, who would ever complain about the view! Comox Wharf is one of the prettiest places in the valley to go and take a stroll. The eagle has his usual perch watching the goings on. Anyways, I highly recommend the Black Fin as a place to go to enjoy fun and great good.
I visited the Black Fin Pub recently and was pleasantly surprised by the incredibly friendly staff. They were attentive and accommodating, creating a welcoming atmosphere. However, I must admit that I was disappointed with the quality of the food. Despite the warm service, the dishes fell short of my expectations and were rather lackluster. Very slow service with the couple on the adjacent table, who'd ordered well after us, being served before. My wife had the chowder, said it was OK. I ordered the $21 seafood enchiladas. These were flauta size, served in a small dish within a big plate. The sauce, I suspect, was made with condensed cream of tomato soup with added spices. They contained fish, but no other identifiable seafood. Terrible value for money.
