We hadnt been here for a good few years but used to be regulars when we lived on Alma Vale Road. We walked in last night to get a take away, orrdering a Chicken Bom and a King Prawn Jalfry with Garlic and Mushroom rices, two plain and two spicy popadoms. The service was good and the food arrived quickly and was hot. Both curry dishes were a bit bland with little depth to the flavours and were far to oily to be enjoyable. The spiced podadoms werent cooked but the rices, whilst a little oily were fine with a good balance of teh respective garlic and mushroom. Have been to the Raj a number of times before over a few years and enjoyed the atmosphere and food very much thus the return visit with friends for a treat Indian meal. We were surprised that on a Thursday night it was almost empty. It quickly became obvious that they were very short staffed, both in the kitchen and at table. We were made welcome but had to wait to order anything at all. We waited an hour and a half for our mains. The starters were the best part of the meal. Sadly our mains were luke warm and not the special food the menu, and our previous experience had led us to expect. We visited the Bristol Raj for a Mother’s Day meal with the Memsaab and heiress to the family fortune. It had been a long while since we had visited and I’m delighted to report that we had a great evening. The food was great: delicious, well spiced and nicely presented. The service was quick without being rushed and indeed we were asked whether we would like a break between courses. This was much appreciated. As well as various starters we had a chicken dhal masala, prawn dhansak and chicken korma with rices and naan. All were tasty and the naan was excellent. Well done Bristol Raj on turning out some lovely food this evening
Delivery through Uber Eats. The large order was not received. The restaurant was not interested and stated that they would not help with my complaint as the order had been picked up by the delivery driver. I do not know if this was the case, as it never reached me. So I cannot comment on the quality of the food. As we did not get to try it. Now have to spend time trying to get a refund. Maybe they should rethink using UberEats as a delivery company and should own a customer complaint and not pass the buck. I felt the restaurant was dismissive and rude when I called them.

I’ve been visiting this restaurant for over 10 years and never been disappointed, my job has changed and I won’t be visiting Bristol anymore and I’m gutted I won’t be here again. Food and service excellent but have to say really disappointed no draft Indian beer, waiter said they might have some nexus week, not really acceptable. First time I have ever experienced this but have to be honest when writing a review
Stumbled across this restaurant while looking for somewhere to eat, down stairs and was not sure, but what a brilliant surprise!! The best Indian food we had tasted in a very long time, the staff were really friendly and the food was amazing, great value for money and we highly recommend
Fantastic service amazing food brilliant place to eat, been visiting this restaurant for many years and it never disappoints great meal fantastic value well priced drinks! You won’t be disappointed
Once again my friends and I visited this Bristol restaurant, and once again we were not disappointed. Great food super friendly service. The onion bhajis were a particulate good. We'll be back
