There's nothing like a delicious bowl of Vietnamese noodle soup is there? This was my first visit to Broken Rice. Being as how we are always on the lookout for new noodle soup places, I was excited to try this one. So, I ordered the Hot and Sour Seafood Pho and to start the Coconut Shrimp Cakes for the three of us to share having never had them before. The presentation was very nice, the Shrimp Cakes were certainly interesting and unusual but they really needed the Nuoc Mam that accompanied them. The Hot and Sour Seafood Pho was, in my opinion, neither hot nor sour...and disappointing in it's lack of flavour, thank goodness for that Sriracha sauce on the table and I have to say that I have e...
Broken Rice is my favourite place for dinner. The ambience is upscale yet simple and the staff are friendly and accomodating. Meals and drinks are reasonably priced. Best of all I like to go with a group so we can eat family style and enjoy a variety of dishes but even for two it makes for a great meal. With lots on the menu we've tried something new each time and our standards are the duck slider appetizer, green papaya salad, shaken beef, and chicken clay pot. They are all delicious and I love this place.
We loved this place having been there 2-3 times in 2015. But went there couple weeks ago, and was really disappointed with the service. They never asked how our food was. We had to call their attention to refill our tea. Tried to get our bill, but both servers were just busy cleaning up, not looking out for the customers. It wasn't even anywhere near closing time! When my friend adked to have her food packed to go, the lady just gave her a container! =( I dont think we're going back.
I was disappointed, there were no combination dishes. That's good if you're with a big group, but for two of us, not like that. The salad leaves were huge and difficult to eat. I didn't expect that to be a salad wrap. The pot came into a bowl of Vinaiigrette. It could have spam or hot dogs, hard to say. There was little value for a $16 meal.
