The Orator is my favourite restaurant but it doesn 't feel as if it knows what direction to take. The lunchtime menu has deteriorated since opening, with smaller portions that are more expensive, and a choice of food particularly in the bar that has become more restricted every time I visit. The initial renovation of the Union has been done with style and elegance, particularly in relation to the lighting. However, whilst I understand the rationale for swapping the bar and the restaurant so that the latter is closer to the kitchen, the arrangement of the furniture in the now 'bar ' area has let down the whole place. It has been six months since my last visit to the Orator. I returned yesterday to enjoy a special meal with a friend. The ambiance was great and the service was good. However, I was disappointed to see that the menu had drastically changed. It used to offer above-average quality options with good value for money, but now it resembles more of a burger bar. I was taken aback and would have left without ordering if the weather had been better. I do not plan on returning or recommending the Orator anytime soon unless they decide to rethink their menu.
A birthday dinner which was a delight. First, relaxed drinks in the cosy bar. Then through to the restaurant which featured well-spaced tables. All the decor and details such as cutlery and plates well designed and good to work with. Excellent food, simple but with a twist, Bavette beautifully presented, as was the pork chops. Smoked salmon starter a bit minimalist and the service got a bit tagged as the evening wore on. Nevertheless, a thoroughly delightful experience in a stylish ambience. Will definitely be back.
Cafe On The Round in Cambridge offers a delightful dining experience with its fresh, home-cooked dishes and attentive service. The menu features a wonderful selection that made for a very enjoyable evening. Thank you.

The waitress who served me and my friend was exceptionally kind and went above and beyond to make our evening memorable. She was wonderful, and we would definitely return just for her outstanding service.
The waiter disappointed us by saying the kitchen was closed, despite our reservation for the 4:00 pm time slot.
The food was delicious and served promptly, but the service was lacking as the waitstaff often seemed absent.
Tucked away behind the Round Church.....a great find.....well worth a visit ????????
