Canape Cafe and Bakery

We happened upon this great "bakery" while wandering downtown Pictou, hoping luck might lead us to a great lunch somewhere unplanned. And it was our lucky day! After checking out 3 other places, we peeked into this tiny spot at one end of town. Only a few tables fill the room, and lunch offerings are listed on the wall. The usual counter & display case provide the bakery touch. However, the food such as soup (cream of chicken with pasta) was homemade style, and the breads used for sandwiches were made there, delicious and nutritious! This place is, unfortunately, listed under bakeries so a lot of people probably don't see it on TripAdvisor.We had the special chicken salad sandwich and tomato soup. Also a homemade cookie -- the bread was homemade too.1.5 miles off 106 right after crossing the causeway. Worth a short drive through this small town.Order at the counter and sit inside or outside. Filled with locals who we heard talking about how much they love this place.Food was terrific! Total price was $17C which is cheap for two.Not a typical 5-star restaurant but a great experience yields the great rating.If this review is helpful then please indicate so below.

I stopped in for lunch at Canapé Cafe my first day in Pictou. I was treated with a welcoming smile and patience as I tried to choose just one of their sandwiches. I finally settled on the Lola on homemade wheat bread. I have never had chicken salad like this before and it was certainly wonderful. The fresh, thickly sliced whole wheat bread was wonderful, some of the best homemade bread I have ever eaten. You definitely want to eat here on your visit to Pictou.

The Canape Cafe and Bakery is a hidden gem on Front Street in the town of Pictou, NS.Although it may be a little hard to find, the rewards are delicious. From baked goods to soups and sandwiches, every time I try something different it seems they have excelled themselves again.Try it yourself the next time you're in Pictou. Right next to Crown Pizza. The sandwiches and bread were large and home made. The cinnamon rolls were very large. Nice staff. Prices were good. Small area inside so we ate outside on a table. Just a little bakery, nothing flashy, but good food and was very busy, must be a local favorite.

However the soup tasted like it was fresh out of a can. So it brought it down a star. We has soup and sandwich. The grilled cheese was great!And if my waist would hide the rest we would have bought a dozen cooked molasses. Other wise cute spot.

Cute, hidden out of the way little place but I love stopping in for a quick cinnamon roll. Even though they are big don't plan on sharing, you will want it all to yourself! The owners are friendly and bake up a storm.everything looks so good.

Stopped by this place for lunch a couple times while in Pictou. Great little place for lunch. There's a nice range of sandwiches and the soup of the day is generally good. Réservez une table maintenant

Best food in town and super friendly staff. The chef came out and asked how my meal was. I noticed "Newfie Fries" on their chalkboard menu. I found it offensive.

Anything I have eaten or bought to take out at this cafe has been wonderful! I especially like the Lola sandwich, the oatcakes, and the beer bread.
