My first opportunity to try their food was a sampler platter from the Fairfax fall festival and the food then was a solid 4 stars. So when our dinner plans on Sunday we’re canceled the ale house was my immediate go to thinking we’d have decent quality food. However the food was unsatisfactory. We went around 6:30PM on Sunday and ordered a variety of dishes:Schnitzel crispy but dry/chewy meat the fall festival schnitzel was juicy and a good serving of pork)Golonkal lamb shank) was literally alamb shank on mashed potato, no sauce or beets. And meat was very chewy and dry, lots of gristle. We had to ask for some au jus.Burger and sweet potato fries Ok but literally gave like 10 fries so didn’t...

Attended the GMU Men's Basketball Coach Tony Skinn Coach's Show in the club room of the Ale House. Staff was VERY accommodating of my wife and I, who have mobility issues and cannot deal with elevated bar tables, so they set up lower tables for us. Room was a bit small for the large turnout, but no one had problems viewing the taping of the show or feeling the fellowship. I had the wurst platter, which was VERY good, and my wife the macaroni and cheese, which she loved. I was a little disappointed in the beers on tap (they advertise 100 beers, but many were overseas brands or ciders I was expecting more American craft beers), but I found a Baltic Porter that was quite tasty and satisfying. Large restaurant in an historic building, with outside seating at the front entrance.Extremely large selection of beers both on tap, and in bottles/ cans, with an emphasis on Belgian.French Dip was fine, opted for Hungarian potatoes as my side, and they need improvement. They are basically potato pieces with the skin on, that were baked in an oven. No special seasoning, and no sauce. I took them home and ate them with ranch later.Sat at bar, and there was only one other customer in the entire place. Bartender was friendly enough, but as others have mentioned before, she completely dissappears and doesn't stay behind the bar. Myself and the other gentleman had empty glasses for a good 10 minu...
This place has so much potential. The building is beautiful. The ambience is wonderful, especially when the fireplaces are going. Good selection of beer. The food and service, however, always leaves me with a bad taste. We usually wait a while for food, even when the place is fairly empty. The pretzel we tried before is good. Today's choice of fried pickles was awful. They were super greasy long strips and the batter fell off on our clothes as we ate. The schnitzel is usually good. I had a steak today though and it was horrible completely overcooked and bland with an odd freezer burn aftertaste. The broccoli was cold and the potatoes had no flavor at all. The server never refilled our drinks... Réservez une table maintenant
My boyfriend and I visited the Fairfax Capital Ale House on Saturday night, and we had a fantastic experience! Our server, Imad, was exceptional—full of energy, knowledgeable about the menu, and had some excellent recommendations. During our previous visit to the Fairfax location, we had to wait a long time and never received our appetizer, so we were pleasantly surprised this time by the quality of the service and the food. The spicy peach BBQ sauce was simply delicious! My boyfriend's burger and my southern mac and cheese were both outstanding. I would give it a perfect 10 out of 10 and highly recommend it!
The service and atmosphere were excellent. However, the loaded fries left much to be desired. In reality, they had only about 25% of the toppings depicted in the menu photo. Perhaps they should invest less in menu photography and more in their food quality and toppings. I also ordered the roasted pork special with broccolini and mashed sweet potatoes, but the pork was overcooked and lacked seasoning. I wouldn’t pay for it again. The one redeeming factor was the bartender and the cocktails served by the staff.
I had a wonderful late dinner at Capital Ale House in Fairfax City with a friend tonight. The food was amazing, and the service was exceptional. Our waiter, Imad, was incredibly friendly, and our bartender, Alex, concocted some fantastic drinks. We will definitely be returning!
We really enjoyed our lunch here. My husband and I both got burgers and shared the fried pickle appetizer. We agreed it’s the best food we’ve had in the area. The burgers were each cooked exactly to our preferences and had great flavor. We will definitely be back. Réservez une table maintenant
This was my first time here since capital ale house replaced hardtimes and I have to say, I love this place. Imad was awesome and really took care of us. Beers are great, food was great, and service was great. Definitely will be coming back.
This is a good place for lunch. I liked my chowder the small Caesar salad. Also was able to park right next to the restaurant.

"My partner and I met up with my sister here for brunch/lunch and it was great! We came in on a Sunday around 10:30am and we were seated right away. The waiter was super friendly and attentive. The food was delicious! Went later for some cheesecake slices. My only complaint is that the slices are nearly $10 each!! A little pricey, in my opinion, but nonetheless tasty!"
