We (two couples) went for an evening meal to the Casa Novo. This restaurant in the old town of Berne on the bank of the river Aare is very special. When the weather is nice and warm you can sit outside near the river. If it 's cold the inside of the restaurant is spacious and very welcoming. Although rather expensive the food is worth it 's price. the quality is excellent and it is prepared with care. What you get is arranged esthetically on your plate and tastes wonderful. We are no wine drinkers, but Mr. Novo has a well equipped Vinoteca , a special room where you can taste first class vines, which you can get of course with your meals as well. Wir hatten spontan etwas zu feiern und relativ kurzfristig reserviert, haben einen wunderbaren Tisch in der Vinothek mit Blick auf die Aare bekommen. Sehr sympathische und aufmerksame Bedienung. Wir wählten das 4 Gänger Menü, bestehend aus herbstlichen Köstlichkeiten. Besonders gefallen hat uns die Hokkaido Kürbiscreme mit Waldpilztatar und Kaviar von letzterem merkte man zwar nicht viel, dafür sind mir die karamellisierten(? Kürbiskerne und der Trüffelschnee in nachhaltiger Erinnerung eine geniale Komposition! Auch das Blutwursttapa schmeckte mir als Nicht Blutwurst Fan ausgezeichnet. My favourite restaurant I've visited. The preparation is at Michelin level but the dishes are more unpretentious. They often take a classic and bring it to the next level, somehow without losing the soul of the classic. The atmosphere is very relaxed for the level of the food, usually service becomes stiffer and more formal when dining at this level. Here, everyone receives a warm welcome by the hosts. Casa Novo wurde seinem Ruf mehr als gerecht. Die Qualität ist hervorragend, das Essen originell, sehr fein und vor allem mit viel Liebe gemacht! Das erste mal als wir da waren wurden wir sehr zuvorkommend behandelt. Beim zweiten mal, war das Personal sehr frech und wir wurden am Ende noch „davon gejagt“, weil der Tisch um 20.00 Uhr weitergegeben wurde. Für diesen Preis eine Frechheit! Das Essen und die Weine waren sehr gut, egal was man bestellt hat.
Where cosy meets fine dining! This place is a combination of tasty food, cosy atmosphere, attention to details and friendly staff. You can't ask for more. It should be on your Bern list. remember to book a table with a few days in advance as it gets fully booked easily.
