Whenever I come back to Cheltenham from the Wars I always have to visit Charles Takeway after 40 years of being a customer. I hope old Charles is still going well and supervising the youngsters. Before I enter the shop after a 5 year break Charles's Cypriot nephew (balding now! has a giant piece of haddock ready to drop into the fryer without asking. Cooked to perfection as always and I stand at the end of counter pigging out. Great place and everyone works hard to please a diverse group of clients, drunk or sober. Spies from GCHQ and the police use Charles Takeaway. It's a pity that security is required outside the door due to the pondlife who can't hold their liquor and make fools of thems...
I used to be a big fan of Charlie's chippy and would make the extra effort to drive there, despite other closer options. However, my recent experiences have been disappointing. During my last two visits, I found a piece of kebab meat in my large chips, which was off-putting as I am a vegetarian. Additionally, on my second visit, I saw three staff members smoking and vaping outside the shop. They returned to work without changing clothes or washing their hands, which is unacceptable. This is not the quality of service or food I used to expect from Charlie's chippy.
I suggested to some friends who have recently moved into town to try Charles. The said they fish was lovely but the batter rubbery. The live almost next door so no trouble with then travelling a distance. I went today lovely chips, lovely pie and a tasty battered sausage but the batter was certainly not crispy. I’ve had many takeaways from this place and never had soggy batter. That said it was still lovely and I and my friends will definitely be back soon
The food at this restaurant is delicious, but unfortunately, there have been two occasions where items were missing from my order. It is surprising that they could forget to include the chips with the fish and chips dish. With so many dining options in Cheltenham, you would expect Charles to be more attentive, especially considering their long-standing presence in the area. It is safe to say that I will not be ordering from them again.

Our family always enjoy our weekend fish and chip dinner from Charlie’s. The food is excellent and good value. Fish and chips is always fresh and the burgers and curry sauce is always a firm favourite too. Service is friendly and good social distancing measures in place. Happy to drive across town for our Friday treat. A lovely family run chippy in the centre of Cheltenham
I have been using Charles Take Away for many years and their food is the best around. Any chance you can open a shop in the Forest Of Dean?
One of the best take-aways in Cheltenham. The doner kebabs are not that great, but the fish and chips and the chicken is very good indeed.
Is this supposed to be a fish cake? Why is it so peppery? Is this normal? It's a shame because the homemade tartar sauce is quite nice.

Really tasty fish and chips, very quick service and the food was hot. Recommend the curry sauce! Will visit again soon.
I'm from up north and the chips and gravy are on point. Also great customer service, look forward to coming back.
