The star of the lunch meal were the sausages, which were just outstanding (and wrapped in bacon! . The accompanying french fries were fairly average. Beer was very nice, but only a Pilsner was available. Definitely worth a stop if your driving through the Wachau valley."

My family took me to the Wachau and said they will take me to Spitzerl, they have the best Austrian Road Pork with dumplings and cabbage salad with bacon. The front was fully booked, alas we had not, I would suggest you do and my cousin Ines is not one to take no for an answer, there was her favourite table and that was booked in one hour, she went and saw the manager and we got the table and there was no Roast Pork on the Menu and the waitress said we could have it. It was every bit as good as I was told only the meal was not hot enough for the English palate, we told the waiter and he apologised and said it would not happen again. I suggest if you like hot food, mention it when you order....
There are not many dining options in Spitz and this little place south of the rotary and parallel to the Danube River is the best we found. There is ample parking and both indoor and outdoor seating choose outdoor if you can. Indoor is cute but a bit much; outdoor is casual with nicely carved wooden picnic style tables and benches and a nice view of the river albeit right on the road so some road noise . The French fries are excellent crispy not greasy and fresh. The pork weiner schnitzel could feed two people easily and again is very fresh, not greasy, not too heavy on the breading, and delicious with the currant sauce as a dip. We stopped for lunch on a very wet day. Plenty of car parking and bicycle parking spaces outside this restaurant and there are many tables inside and outside too. Two negative things about this place were 1. No English menu and 2. The attitude of the waitress who was abrupt and rude and completely disinclined to explain the items on the menu. Positives were that the food was very good and cheap and the apricot dumplings a specialty of the region when the apricots are in season) were superb. A good place to stop on the bicycle route but best if you speak German
Our guide took us here on our trip from Sankt Johann to Wien. It is a small riverside Bistro on the Danube riverbank. Picturesque ruins on the hill behind it. It is also on the main Danube cycle route and therefore very popular. The full to capacity restuarant was managed effectively with one exception. We all ordered one particular special dish and got something quite different and rather tough. We had two native German speakers in the party so we're pretty clear on that
