Chocolaterie de l'Ile d'Orleans

It was my third time coming to the Chocolaterie because a visit to l'Île d'Orléans would not be the same without it! However, it was my mother's first visit and she deeply enjoyed it! The staff was very helpful when it came to finding that "special gift" for a loved one. There were many variety of chocolates, candy and different spreads to be found. Please be warned though, it is best to make this store your last visit when on the island during a hot summer's day. Having chocolate in your car can result in a very sticky mess if left in the back seat!

I confess... we are major fans of the soft ice cream they serve here, dipped in a dark chocolate that hardens into a thick, intensely delicious shell. (They offer a variety of dips flavors, but we are addicted to the dark chocolate.) We've visited Quebec on four occasions, and every time we come back here just to experience the dipped ice cream. Parking can get a bit hairy, especially in the afternoon when it's prime time for ice cream. The attached chocolate shop also sells chocolate bars and other items.

The line was long, but moved quickly at this well-staffed shop. There was ice cream and pre-made sandwiches, chips and the like upstairs, and a chocolaterie downstairs. We ignored the chocolaterie, but we did eat lunch upstairs. The soft-serve, dipped cones were exceptional. My salted-caramel dip coating was like flannel, but in a good way. It was thick and solid, had great flavor, and did not crack and fall apart on any bite. I would go back there right now if I was not 1255 miles away.

We still talk about the ice cream on a regular basis. Smooth, creamy, tasty and dipped in wonderfully delicious dark chocolate, need I say more? Take your cone across the street and enjoy the views as you walk on the river path.
