Just after lockdown ended my Husband and I stayed overnight here, and had dinner in the pub. The rooms are in an old school house (if I remember correctly) and were very nice cosy and homely. The ambiance in the pub is great (although...being honest at that time when restrictions were still very much in place, social distancing wasn't really happening). We shared some nibbles to start with consisting of mini sticky sausages, some kind of cauliflower bites and some belly pork bites (I think! All excellent. For starter I think I may have had some form of cheese souffle (we were a few gins in at this point and it was a few months ago now! and for main course I had the steak and kidney pie. Both...

After calling a few weeks in advance to reserve a table for Sunday lunch, we were informed that only bookings of a certain size were accepted. However, we were assured that walk-ins were usually not a problem. Following this advice, we arrived at the restaurant and requested a table for two. Despite being told there would be a short wait, we were welcome to stand at the bar or sit outside with a drink. Opting to stand at the bar, we found ourselves ignored by the staff and even the manager. The final straw was when the manager walked away without acknowledging us. Frustrated by the poor service, we decided to leave. It was clear that this restaurant prioritizes the convenience of management...
After visiting Beeston Castle, we came here for lunch. You walk in and there is a big open fire roaring away and it’s open plan but cosy and oldey world tall at the same time! The food was yummy. Only snag was that in our group was a vegetarian (not that this was a problem to me) but to her she had only one choice. So if you’re a veggie probably not the best choice! But if you love meat like I do, then it was fab! I had the beef burger and it was delicious! Generous portions. I was very greedy and ordered a pudding. The traditional jam roly poly was just too much of a temptation! And I ate it all up! The only thing I didn’t like which is me being finicky was I like proper plates for my food....
A bit of a risk taken to try this recommended pub with no possibility of reservation and a minute drive. When we arrived we were seated straight away. Bar service only but a very friendly service. Starters included the pea and ham with rarebit...crouton which was thoroughly enjoyed. The main course fish and chips was mixed, the chips were fantastic however the batter on the fish was not crisp enough and a bit soggy. The roast beef was meant to be rib however was very lean and more like the sirloin on offer. It was a well done where I would have preferred medium or even rare. The portions were very big if not too big. We were testing this out to see if we would bring visitors here however we... Réservez une table maintenant
After visiting Beeston Castle, we went to this restaurant for lunch. Upon entering, we were greeted by a large open fire, creating a cozy and rustic atmosphere. The food was delicious, with generous portions. However, the only downside was that one person in our group was a vegetarian and had limited choices. If you are a vegetarian, this may not be the best option for you. But for meat lovers like myself, it was fantastic! I thoroughly enjoyed the beef burger and couldn't resist ordering a traditional jam roly poly for dessert. The only minor complaint I had was that I prefer to eat off of proper plates, as my burger was served on a wooden board and my pudding in a skillet.
We have been enjoying this pub and restaurant for over ten years, however there is a noticeable decline in service standards and general management in recent months. There is a clear lack of staff training and the recently appointed manager appeared completely disinterested. We sat...and waited for drinks for just shy of one hour, the manager had seen us seated and never returned. Four members of staff stood chatting behind the bar completely oblivious. After an hour and minutes, we walked out. Although this is our local, we will be taking ourselves elsewhere. Really disappointing.
Sorry guys but cannot believe the change in this pub. Has gone from the best pub in Cheshire IMO to something unrecognisable. Food … bland and unseasoned. Staff …. Friendly but chaotic. Manager….. missing!! Pre Covid there was always excellent management present on all shifts...overseeing service and food. The team really cared. The passion to be the best has gone. Please bring back the team and chef at the earliest as this current experience is poor. Staff are pleasant but look lost and clueless. Train them up properly. Management is currently lacking!
Our family attend the Tough Mudder event in the area. We have done this five times now . We arrive for the event early so we can visit The Cholmondley. Arms for a light lunch and a. Few drinks. Always amazing food. Great friendly staff....The are knowledgable about the food and drinks they are serving .. lovely atmosphere It is our treat before we camp for a few days…neverdisappointing. A great start to our weekend. Réservez une table maintenant
This restaurant is no longer the same. The staff appear confused and the food, especially the steak and chips, is no longer as delicious as it used to be. The atmosphere has changed noticeably. I will not be coming back anytime soon. To the management: please take note of these issues and make improvements before it's too late.
