This restaurant has changed hands from time to time but it is always known as Choyan and not much has changed in decor for a number of years. If ABC ever look for a location for period drama then this place will be straight from central casting. Having said that, it is a comfortable space and usually quiet and familiar.The wait staff are also old-gen rather than next gen but they fit in like a glove and are warm and friendly and super efficient from years of practise. Food has, thankful, moved on from the black beans with any meat and sweet and sour sauce era and is typical of most better Chinese restaurants. The first time that I visited the Choyan was about 38 years ago. It had a name for good quality food and service back then and nothing has changed. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and attentive. Whether you are looking for a quiet dinner for two, or a banquet for ten, this is the place to come. We had one of the chef's specials, salt an pepper mixed seafood, honey king prawns and chilli fillet steak. All of which had generous servings and were full of flavour. The honey king prawns were the best we had had in quite a while.
At first glance, You'd think that the Choyan had hit it's peak in 1983 and was trying to ride that glory to oblivion... ...and you'd be correct. ... (What?...gotta give a fair balanced review? FIIIIIIIIIIIINNE! Look, if you can get passed the dated appearance...of the decor, both inside out...then you're in for an admittedly goooooood time. A world class restaurant with a central bar and amazing, characterful staff? HOT-DAMN, what's the catch? Oh...right. The decor the price of everything. If you can afford it, then It's amazing.
We first visited this restaurant over 25 years ago, and have never stopped coming back. The staff greet us personally. The food is delicious, and we really like the arrangement of tables, which can accommodate groups of all sizes. It's the only restaurant I know where you can hold a conversation without being drowned out by background noise.

Wonderful service by the waiters and very attentive. The Chinese cuisine served here is delicious and authentic. Definitely a restaurant I will keep going back to. The prices are reasonable for the quality of food you receive. Everyone left with a full stomach and enjoyed all the food.
The customer service at this restaurant is outstanding! The wait staff are friendly and experienced. They even went out of their way to accommodate my request for tomato rice with crispy skin chicken. I definitely plan on returning here in the future.
I have been frequenting this restaurant for more than two decades. The food is consistently delicious and made with fresh ingredients. I have enjoyed dining in as well as ordering delivery. This place is a staple of the North Shore community.
Went here on a Saturday night. We ordered sizzling prawns, fried rice and vegetable spring rolls. The prawns were about $30 which i thought was quite expensive. The food was nice, good chinese for the area. Would recommend this restaurant.

This restaurant serves authentic Cantonese cuisine. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable. The food is delicious without being greasy or overly salty. I will definitely return to eat here again.
