I was treated rudely by the staff as soon as we entered the restaurant. It was our first time there, and when I asked for a few minutes to look over the menu, I felt rushed the entire time, even though we were the only customers. I received an attitude while ordering, and after we sat down, more customers arrived. It was noticeable that everyone who came after us was treated with much more friendliness and respect. It made me wonder if it was because they were white and we are Hispanic, even though the worker was also Hispanic. The food felt a bit overpriced compared to similar places, and the drink dispenser was filthy. The fries I ordered were old, extremely greasy, and had a burnt taste....
The team at Dear Franks was fantastic. We were visiting from out of state, and it was our first experience at this restaurant. The customer service was top-notch; they were very patient with us while we struggled to decide what to order. Everyone enjoyed their meals. We each chose different dishes, and everything was delicious. It was our first time trying a Chicago dog, and it certainly lived up to the hype—the snap on my chargrilled dog was amazing! They also offer ice cream and milkshakes, and the Oreo milkshake was incredible! We’ll definitely return on our next visit!
I ordered a Philly cheesesteak, but it seemed like they forgot it was cooking, resulting in it being half burnt. The cheese sauce tasted like processed cheese from a can. I decided to try the kids' cheeseburger, and when I lifted the oversized butter bun, I found a disappointing, burnt patty beneath. There were even extra overcooked burgers sitting on the grill. The fries were stale, and this was during lunch at 12:30 PM! To top it all off, the bill was over forty bucks! I left in disbelief and ended up going somewhere else.
I've been visiting Dear Franks since the early 1980s, and it remains fantastic. It's truly my second favorite dining spot in the entire state, just behind Paradise Pup. They have amazing burgers, hot dogs, and fries (especially when they're cooked extra well-done). The staff is incredibly friendly, and the atmosphere is pleasant, although I'm not a fan of the ice cream area they've added. Overall, Dear Franks is a true gem!
I had some fantastic Italian beef and delicious sausage at this restaurant. They didn’t have mozzarella cheese for the cheesy beef, but they offered Merks cheddar, which turned out to be a great substitute for me. I also enjoyed their excellent cheddar burgers and cheddar fries.
