This is a beautiful place filled with beautiful people serving beautiful dishes. I happened to come shopping for a car in the neighborhood. I was surprised by the breadth of the menu... gumbo, and so on together with the usual soul food. Sometimes in a small restaurant these things are on the menu, but they are out. Not with Dirty South. I ordered the rubber train. It was perfectly prepared. The spices added the ingredients instead of overwhelming. Ditto for the grain bread. Not too dry, not to gooey. During later visits I had the wings, scratched greens, baked Mac, black-eyed peas, red beans and rice. The wings were made less good than I like, but that would be easy to fix, and it would be worth as the dough they use makes for an appealing treatment. For me the decor was perfect. modest, clean, funny signs and warm messages on the wall, beautiful music from the boombox. Drop the toilet door before you get in. It was also educational. I learned to order a Muddy Water instead of an Arnold Palmer. The staff was professional, warm and attractive. Everything about this place is authentic and tasteful.
Came here because a friend of mine highly recommended this place, this place not disappointed. Used a groupon deal to get a lot (because I love shops, who not?? Order: Red Snapper (drilled: 4.5 stars Great tasting w/ yummy saisoning but was a bit salty. Mac cheese: 4 stars Cheesey heavy but still tasty potatoes: 4 stars So delicious, but so filling. Wels (fried: 4 stars batter was not excessively thick, it was a good ratio of fish to dough. Unlike some places where they have so much battery that you wonder where all fish go? Service: A very helpful nice; if you are the 1. Once here they are more than happy to help you. Ambience: D Very small place with a few chairs right next to the counter. You need to put a few windows/ventilation in here because it can be very hot stuffy here because there is no section that dips the cooking area from the front area. Overall: A If you don't mind the simple environment, but take care of more about your food, then come here to support the Mother Pop small businesses.
The best roasted chicken, greens, Mac and cheese and yams. Corn bread was wonderful. The place is clean and the staff is friendly. If you want good soul food at grear price, this is the place. Open 24 hours now! I have several meals here in the last 5 months and will have a few more in the near future.
